Get back on track in moments
Taking action TODAY means…
A three item checklist to creating momentum NOW
When considering taking action, you first have to answer the following three questions:
- Do I have clear direction?
- Do I have defined reasons for moving in that direction?
- Do I have the know-how to get me there?
This is a three item checklist to help you identify your next set of actions.
If what you want is important enough, stepping up your game is what you’ve got to do!
These questions will enable you to draw closer to where you’d like to get to and who you need to be.
Checklist Item #1: Do I have clear direction?

So what is your goal, your objective, the results or outcomes you are looking to create? Do you know? How clear are they? They’ve got to be crystal clear and unmistakably defined. Here’s a truth illustrated in the story of “Alice and Wonderland.”
“Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, “What road do I take?”
The cat asked, “Where do you want to go?”
“I don’t know,” Alice answered.
“Then,” said the cat, “it really doesn’t matter, does it?”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland
You’ll go nowhere fast when where you’re direction is not well defined.
How about writing down what you want. Write out what kind of lifestyle you want. Create the exact life you desire, on paper, first. Then, start LIVING like you want TODAY. Little by little, you’ll add aspects of your ideal life and layers in the life you’ve always dreamed of.
Don’t play small. Either live what you’ve defined alread, or make a new plan. The plan should be vivid and emotionally charged. Visualize your future self, your future life. Visualize every single day.
You’ll make it. Not without work though. Not without sacrifice. Not without transformation. Not without searching for answers and finding solutions.
Know exactly where you want to be. That’s the best place to start.
Checklist Item #2: Do I have defined reasons for moving in that direction?

If you know where you’re going, why go there if you don’t know why?
Time has never heeded those who have asked it to slow down or stop for them. In other words, you can’t afford to waste it.
What this means to you, now, is that you must find out why you do what you do. You must be selective with how you spend each moment of your day.
Ask yourself, why are you choosing to make these goals? Why are you wanting to become a better you?
What are the reasons for investing time, energy and money in those opportunities that you’ve attached yourself to?
What do you believe that causes you to drive forward? What are your motivating factors?
These questions are vital. Why? Because you need the answers to such questions in order to really find lasting success. They will be your loyal friends; the very source of strength that you will draw from to make it through the hard times. Rough and uncertain times that will surely come.
Take out a piece of paper and write your reasons, your WHY. Make the effort, then tack your list to the wall.
Take a picture and make it your cell phone home screen. Make a copy and place those beliefs, your motivating “Whys”, in your car, on the fridge, everywhere you can to keep yourself motivated and focused on what’s important to you.
Checklist Item #3: Do I have the know-how to get me there?

If you know the destination and you know why you are heading there, but you do not know HOW to get there, don’t panic. Don’t worry. That’s a hill you can climb.
There are others ahead of you. There’s always a way. Keep going.
What you really need are TOOLS, MENTORS, and ACCOUNTABILITY.
Tools can consist of knowledge sets, software, gadgets, scheduled chunks of time, and enablers. A proven system can also serve as a powerful tool. A previously carved out path makes for much swifter progress through what could have been thick and arduous territory.
Mentors can be those farther down the road, those who have carved the path you’re now traveling. Success cases, people willing to give you their time to coach you, thought leaders; they are everywhere. You just have to build relationships and nurture opportunity.
Accountability can prove to be an invaluable part of your journey. Select a small group of individuals who understand your intentions. Update them as you progress through goals, milestones, and moments of achievement.
Another alternative is to choose one person to communicate with several times a day as you check off several small tasks. This person must agree to such high frequency of communication. You may let them know that they won’t have to respond to every message or email you send them.
Overall, what ever works for you, whatever will help you take action and keep taking action, that’s all you need to worry about. Find tools and systems, mentors and others who can help you along the way.
How do you get to where you know you’re destined to be? The short answer can be found in the words of Zig Ziglar, basically, to do whatever it takes.
“When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal; you do not change your decision to get there”
Zig Ziglar
You’ll get there. You just need to have a bullet proof commitment to never give up.
Find out what you need to get to where you want to go, gather all you can, then make your best effort in moving forward.
