Get Candid: Taking Sexy Selfies

Your body, like every body, is beautiful.

I abhor having my photo taken. There is nothing like somebody getting out their camera and pointing it in my general direction to make my stomach clench and my skin break out in a nervous sweat. So how is it then that I became comfortable with publishing quite revealing candid snaps of myself on my blog, Jupiter’s Lair?

First and foremost is the fact that I have complete editorial control over my images. I can cut, crop and tinker with photos until they meet my approval and, for those pictures that look absolutely horrendous, bin bin bin! No one but me will ever have set eyes on them. (Except for the one or two that have been captured by another party, but even with those, they’re on my mobile phone so I still have power over the delete button.)

Secondly, my face is never shown and nor are my various tattoos or scars. As such, I feel a sense of security that nobody I know is going to recognise me, other than those who already know my secret identity and whom I have trusted to keep schtum!

Thirdly, whereas the voices inside my head have always told me how fucking disgusting my body is, people who have seen my candid images on the blog have always been super supportive and complimentary. That’s a huge confidence booster, and now when my brain tells me how overweight, saggy, and unattractive I am, another part of me can counter with “well, some people out there actually think I look sexy, thanks very much!”

And fourthly, and lastly, but very importantly, it turns me on. It’s quite exciting, liberating, and arousing to dress up, or strip down, and strike a sexy pose. Whilst I completely understand that not everyone wants to post selfies and candid snaps, I heartily recommend taking a few simply for yourself and/or partner. You may, like me, be pleasantly surprised to discover that your bum isn’t as wide as you’ve always feared, and that actually your body, like every body, is beautiful.
