Gavin Newsom Has A Big Problem

Gavin Newsom has been bashed relentlessly over homelessness in California, but that most certainly is not his biggest problem. California’s green future might not be so easy to get, and Newsom just seems to be moving too fast. California has been making some good progress when it comes to climate change, but might not be able to reach its goals in the near future. Newsom is just rushing to achieve a goal that might hurt him in the near future.

Electricity is a major problem for California, and the handling of electricity has been very poor. For example, during the heat waves in the summer of 2022, California just had trouble keeping up the power grids and just did not have enough power for everything. The electricity management then had not been so good, and citizens in California were devastated.

Not to mention that California was building offshore wind mills at the time in order to get to its climate change goals. Newson has often been bashed for the power grid situation in California. But what really hit the nail straight on the head was when Doug LaMafla got on the house floor and spoke out about the power grid situation.

LaMalfa is from the rural areas of North California and has talked about the poor management of power grids and lines. He had talked about the snowstorms in the Sierra Nevada that took out power grids. He complained that companies should not be able to cut off power lines during emergency situations. During that snowstorm, 35,000 people in the Sierra Nevada lost power. Power companies had turned off the power when the conditions had gotten too hard for them to handle.

LaMalfa had also talked about the renewable energy effort that Gavim Newson had imposed. He said that changing from gas to electric had hurt Californians up north. Apparently, switching from vehicles to electric vehicles has created more problems for Californians. Sometimes the Northern Californians had trouble getting power because it was too hard to get. Fossil fuels were more easily accessible for cars.

Gavin Newson has been trying to make California greener, and he sort of succeeded. The air quality index in 1980 had an index of 114.2, which is unhealthy. But now it has an index of 61, which is still unhealthy but very close to healthy levels. What LaMalfa is worried about is that consumers will have a harder time dealing with electric vehicles.

Newson has worked with the Air Resources Board in order to set an agenda for non-emission vehicles. California is supposed to stop manufacturing gas-electric vehicles by 2025 and be completely away from gas vehicles by 2030. The board says that by 2026, 36 percent of all cars sold will be electric vehicles.

But how will the economy react to that, and are we truly taking power away from the car industry? Should California give the consumer the choice, or should it move as quickly as possible to squash climate change? Gavin Newsom has already had some problems with the public, and it is also possible that he could have an electrical problem. Back in 2003, Gray Davis, who was governor of California, got impeached over an energy crisis. Gavin Newsom should definitely watch his steps.
