Intermittent Fasting
Gave Intermittent Fasting Four Months
What happened?
It is working!
In my article “Intermittent Fasting Yes or No?” I laid out a plan to stick with Intermittent Fasting (IF) through the holidays. Well we are past Halloween and Thanksgiving. Stick with the plan, Yes or No? A resounding YES.
In week one I reported on an unexpected benefit of IF-savings! Taking an entire meal off the table not only reduces calorie intake but results in substantial savings. I joked that I could use that savings to buy new clothes. Turns out that was no joke! I did have to put all my food budget savings into buying a new wardrobe. My pants were literally falling off of me.
The early-on energy jolts have leveled off. I kind of need those back! I do have more energy, but boy I got a lot done in those initial first weeks of energy surges.
In the article “15 Days of Intermittent Fasting” I share physiological results that I had not encountered in all my research on the the topic of IF. I don’t want to focus only on the downside of IF, but there are some results that should be shared. I was living in the bathroom.
As my body adapted to burning fat for fuel and as my metabolism continued to repair, I found myself dashing to the bathroom more frequently. Some of the savings in money from fewer groceries had to go to purchasing incontinence products.
Thankfully four months in, the incontinence issue is settling down. It is not gone but there is far less “going” now.
In the article “Intermittent Fasting and Covid-19 Walk into a Bar, I mean Body…” I report that unfortunately I found out my A1C blood sugar level doubled. Since my reason for starting this IF journey was to reduce my A1C number, I was very disappointed. However, recent research is finding a link between Covid-19 infection and diabetes onset. The IF journey may not be the problem and might still be my solution for reversing diabetes.
The good news is that a loss of as little as 5% total weight can begin to reverse the diagnosis of diabetes in nine out of ten people. I sure hope the next doctor visit shows I am one of the nine people and not the unlucky one. Since starting my IF routine I have lost 10% of my body weight.
I’m committing to another four months of IF (if my doctor approves)
I see the doctor again in early December, hoping this next blood work comes back with better news! If my doctor consents, I’m committing to another four months to see if I can reverse this diagnosis of diabetes.
We will see what is in store IF-wise over the next four months. Will the leveling off continue? Will I plateau? One thing I know for sure, I’m switching to dresses for the next round of new outfits. At least dress won’t literally fall off me!

Do as I say and not as I do disclaimer: Please visit your medical doctor before starting on a plan such as this.
I am sharing my experience only, and not offering professional advice other than check with a medical expert and do your “homework” before starting on a new way of eating and living.
A special note of thanks to Dr Mehmet Yildiz for kick starting my IF journey with his in-depth explanation of Intermittent Fasting and Autophagy.
