Gatsby’s Green Light
A story of imperishable hope
One of my all-time favorite books is The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Fitzgerald.
The concept that has always fascinated me the most is the one about the green light.
The beacon of the imperishable light, the symbol of everything.
“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And one fine morning — So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Gatsby’s green light represents hope, desire, everything that we strive to reach, everything we want with all of ourselves, that ultimate thing we would give up everything to obtain.
Just like Daisy was to Gatsby; just like everything Gatsby did and gave up to be with Daisy.
To me, that’s what the green light represents.
Everything, and anything we would do to achieve that everything.
Never stop hoping, your time will come.
Or, you will make it come.
