Gathering Thoughts

Dustin Humes @ unsplash

The creek’s current crashes over rocks, white caps flying in the March air. Ripples lapping up on muddy banks, pulling earth below, down to the silty bottom, where the light of day disappears.

White-tail deer grazing on a nearby field, startled by a possum, frantically run, zig-zagging like a game of tag. Chestnut-colored standardbreds, sleek and shining in the afternoon sun, share the field and peacefully graze on the virgin green blades of grass, ignoring the commotion.

Random daffodils along the creek’s path burst forth in brilliant yellow and revel in the warming rays.

Bird’s eye speedwell, with its dainty blue flowers, match the blue skies above my head. I sense they long to stretch their legs and cover this patch of earth with their abundance.

My heart rejoices to see new life, rather than the destruction war brings to humanity.

Why do we do this to each other? Is it due to man’s greed, wanting more than his fair share or is it due to sheer evil that walks among us?

Gathering my thoughts as I drift off to sleep, the full moon casts its light through the windowpane, a glaze of silver covers all in its path.

In this ambiguous space, the world between consciousness and the dreamworld, I collect heaven’s dust… dust sprinkled with dreams for the future, a future of peace.

And I hear the song of a mockingbird perched outside my window… his melody as disjointed as my thoughts.
