Garonne River — A Life Of Its Own
Spend an hour or day, it is the ideal place to be — Episode 21
This is that time of the day when I sit down to pursue my writing challenge on ILLUMINATION. These days, I am writing about the different cities or places in France that I have been to. It doesn’t have to be a top-of-the-line, scenic wonderland or an architectural marvel that makes us aww. Just any place that we can relate to.
My today’s pic is no city but a place within Toulouse that makes it worth living. I am talking about the beautiful Garonne river that runs within the city.
Actually, rivers are a very integral part of the European lifestyle. The locals make the best use of them. I say locals because tourists normally go for the hustle and bustle of the cities unless they aim for nature.
On any day, you will find people jogging, walking, cycling, or simply sitting by the rivers. You will find no real agenda. They could read books, exercise, sleep or have snacks without making litter in the surroundings. Rather, they take care of their places. They own it. Just yesterday, I saw a voluntary group of youngsters who were picking up trash from the streets. What a thought. Really loved the concept. Wish it could be a common feature everywhere. Or there would be no need for it. It is a fantasy for me. Actually, I am obsessed with the concept of cleanliness, whether it be personal, cities, oceans, or air. Anyway, we will talk about it some other time.
You will never find people in a hurry when interacting with the wilderness. Friends sitting together, enjoying the weekends or the late afternoons while going by the iconic river that passes through the city. By the way, this kind of natural and constructed rivers are very common throughout France and other neighboring countries like Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and so on.
Hope you got a glimpse of the way things are over here. Just thought of sharing the feel with my beloved readers. By the way, whenever you get a chance of visiting these countries, spend an afternoon by a riverbank eating a baguette with cheese and a glass of apple juice. Trust me, you will love it.
