Game of Thrones Expected Deaths

They’re not really spoilers if these predictions don’t come true, but I just wanted to get this down before the show begins.

Theon: completes his story arc by dying to save Bran after pretending to kill Bran when he took over Winterfell.

Jorah: completed his story arc by getting some validation from his cousin and receiving a Valyrian steel sword from Samwell. He sacrifices himself to protect Daenerys.

Gilly: the crypts have to be the most dangerous place in all of Winterfell, because the show kept saying the opposite about ten times since the season started. My guess is that baby Sam (originally promised to the Night King, but rescued by Samwell) gets taken by the Walkers.

Tormund: he shows his true love for Brienne by saving her in battle at the cost of his own life.

Beric Donderian: his whole “bigger purpose serving the Red God” has to be fulfilled. It would be poetic justice for him to die while saving the Hound, the man he tried to kill in trial by combat. Also, it give the Hound a chance to show some emotions, which would be a huge shock. The Hound has to survive because he still has a date with the Mountain.

(Longshot) Sansa: okay, I know this sounds crazy, but one of the biggest themes of the show is the ending of the old ways. Jon had to die to be reborn as King of the North. The Wall stood for 10,000 years and it’s down. Daenerys’ biggest actions were to flee the slaves in Essos;

But one of Daenerys’ biggest lines in the show was her vow to “break the wheel” of the old ruling families in Westeros. Guess who is left in the world who wants power and wants to continue the wheel?

People who will break the wheel

There’s no ruling family left in Dorne, Highgarden, Storm’s End. The Vale is ruled by a weak fool who will probably fall through the moon door by accident (or get thrown). That leaves the following people who don’t lust for power, even if they are part of an ancient ruling family line:

Jon constantly tells us he never asked for a crown and will probably refuse it if offered.

Arya just wants to be a soldier, adventurer and catch up for lost time in the sack with Gendry.

Bran is the three eyed raven, and it’s already too difficult for him to explain what he is, so he wouldn’t be able to communicate that he wants to be king, if that was his desire.

Tyrion just wants to be the behind the scene counselor. He’s too smart to actually want the throne and the target that comes with it.

Jaime is a humbled man who has witnessed the horrors of both the Mad King and the Mad Queen (his sister). He’s got no interest in ruling.

Gendry is also a humble craftsman who likes to make tools, and would be more than happy to serve Arya.

Yara Greyjoy has already sworn of raping, reaving and ravaging in Season 6, so she is going to completely change the Iron Islands if she survives. If that isn’t breaking the wheel, I don’t know what is.

People who don’t want to break the wheel

The only people left who want to rule and have ties to ancient family lines are:

Euron Greyjoy

Cersei Lannister

Sansa Stark.

Daenerys Targaryen

That’s it. Only four living beings in Westeros want to rule in a traditional way.

First, we have to rule out the bad guys, Euron and Cersei, who have to die (and they will)

That leaves Sansa, and Daenerys as the last two people who want power.

I think a key part of the story will involce Daenerys getting pregnant and dying in child birth, like just about every other good mother in the world of GRRM: Lyanna Stark, Joanna Lannister (in the books, she’s supposed to be the only redeeming thing about Tywin), and Rhaella Targaryen.

If she dies, only Sansa would be left to want power.

I think she’s got to go, if the wheel is to be broken by the end of the show.
