Photo-a-Day Challenge
Fungilicious!
My Week in Photos
After a dry start to our summer, the tropical rains returned in late June. Some storms dumped 5 inches of rain, including two deluges at the end of August that produced a total of 10 inches! No one is happier with this damp weather than the fungi that are sprouting up everywhere. So many different sizes, colors, shapes, and varieties.
Some are lovely:
Some are not:
Some are fuzzy:
And this one looks like a package waiting to be opened:
When I’m not looking down searching for fungi, I look up at skies crowded with clouds:
I don’t have a photo for Thursday. It was a busy day. In the morning, Captain Argentina had blood work at his hematologist’s office that confirmed the prednisone he’s been taking for a month worked and his blood disorder is healed. He has many negative and scary side effects from the prednisone, so we’re relieved that he can taper off of it.
Wednesday evening, two of the Captain’s daughters arrived from New Jersey for a three-day visit. I was preoccupied with them on Thursday and didn’t take any photos.
The girls visited with their dad on Friday, giving me the opportunity to go on another photography road trip with Gina. We went to the Saint John’s River in Green Cove Springs, which is 54 miles northeast of us.
The day was a mix of clouds, sun, and soft drizzles, but not enough rain to bother us.
And, we found even more fungi:
While I was gone, Ben’s daughters prepared homemade gnocchi pasta and Argentinian/Italian sauce — the meat version below and a vegetarian version for me.
Saturday morning, we had four visitors — two does and two fawns.
Saturday afternoon, we sadly said goodbye to Ben’s daughters.
It was a good week — positive medical news, family fun, excellent food, a relaxing photography trip, a much-needed break from our routine, and lots of funky fungi.

In July 2020, I started the Photo-a-Day Challenge on Snapshots to help combat the virus blues. I take photos every day and choose one (maybe, two or three) to represent the day. Then add a one-or-two-word descriptor and some narrative. A simple way to observe and preserve.
However, the Snapshot Editors have decided to replace the Photo-a-Day Challenge with a monthly one, so Weeds & Wildflowers is now the official home of this challenge. If you want to participate and are not a writer for W&W, leave a response below, and I’ll add you.
Please note that Weeds & Wildflowers does not have the same word and photo limits as Snapshots.
Want to join the fun? It’s all about noticing and appreciating your environment and sharing it with us, as these photographers and story-tellers have:
