Fun And Recreation Without A Budget

When we think of fun our minds go to a trip to Disney, at party, travel or sporting event. Why not explore some new ideas that can be fun. The items above that we think of all come with a price tag. I want to simulate your minds to develop fun out of some very simple things. Follow me on this journey and see if you don’t have fun. I picked up a cutting of a little plant. I didn’t know what it was.

Ok, I did not mean to follow me on this journey by reading about it. Go get yourself a clipping from your neighbor or a friend and let’s get started. I will wait for you here….

Here is mine:

Next, I put it in a little bottle of water. I will give you a minute to find a water bottle….

I needed to identify my plant so I would know how to make it root. I tried an application from the web called Plant Snap. You take a picture of your plant, and the application analyzes the picture and gives you the name of the plant. It came back with a jade plant, mistletoe, and a couple more. None of these looked just like my clipping. Do you want to try your plant?…

Next, I asked my wife if she knew what the plant was. She said her grandma had rose moss that looked something like this.

Find somebody or the application to name your plant…..

I returned to the web and looked for images of rose moss. I learned that it was moss rose instead of the other way around. I found my plant Portulaca Umbraticola common name wingpod purslane. It looks very much like a picture of one they called Mojave red. Now I can have fun finding out everything I can about my little pet.

While I was waiting on you to get your plant and identify it, mine grew roots in the water bottle.

I won’t bore you with all the facts about my plant. It did say to start the plant, take off the bottom two inches of leaves, and plant in well-drained soil. It’s too late for that on my cutting. It already has roots. I will just put it in a pot of well-draining soil. How is your progress?….

Are you having fun?…

Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see if this baby takes…

My little baby took root and has put out another stem. It made the transition to it’s place in the earth.

My little plant is doing great and adding more stems and leaves all the time. How are your efforts coming with your fun project?..

Oh my! My baby started showing off today. I know this doesn’t have the thrill of the roller coaster, but it was a fun project and it cost nothing. Now I can watch moss rose beauty continue for more pleasurable thought as nature adds more blooms.

If every day becomes a roller coaster ride we will expect a bigger thrill tomorrow. We will find ourselves needing a second job to pay for the E-ticket rides. Continue to look for fun things to do where you are on a budget that requires no second jobs or borrowing money.

Look at the joy that little start gave me later!

This was written as a story about fun and recreation. It did not have the thrill of roller coasters and ferris wheels, but things like this can end up to be fun. You do some research. You learn things you didn’t know. You have the drama of not knowing if you little baby is going to take root. You get outside to plant. Then oh my gosh my baby had a bloom. Now I get to enjoy feedback in the form of God’s beauty.

THAT WAS FUN! It didn’t cost me anything. The fun project is complete. Tell me about your projects.
