Poetry Prompt Day: -7

Who am I? Great question but very difficult to answer. Never had the time to think about it. No one has asked that question before.

My fate was sealed at the time of birth. I was supposed to follow the rules to be a good daughter. I was trained to behave in a certain manner, to be acceptable. Asking questions was seen as defiance.

Future was decided by the dictums of the society. However, life slowly revealed who I am. A person of solid cultural and ethnic identities. I’m a woman of colour, a part of a marginalized minority.

But I’m not a victim. I’m making my own rules to live. I’m confident of the choices I make. I’m comfortable in my skin.

I’m a student of history. I’m only impressed by knowledge. I’m not enamoured by wealth or popularity. I’m just human: complexed and full of contradictions.
