Fuck Content. Make Art
Short form content

“Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” — Kurt Vonnegut
Fuck content. Make art. We haven’t got time for anything else. Write something that makes your heart beat faster. Bring a spark of light or a shadow of darkness, as long as it’s your truth. Write poetry that sets you free. Make music which brings tears to your eyes. Create something that takes you somewhere or makes you ask a question or helps someone to love themselves a little differently; it can be a doodle or a masterpiece, a whole book or a single sentence. It doesn’t have to be good, because no matter what you might have learned at school, art is never wrong. And yes, art can be content and content can be art, just for god’s sake stop making noise and tell me a story. Sing it, dance it, craft it, put it on a plate, plant it, whisper it if that feels right, just listen to your inner voice and honour the light in your soul which is begging to shine. Give this aching world a little something of yourself and ask for nothing in return. You won’t get rich. You won’t go viral. But you will have subverted the whole damned machine that tells you you’re not important, you have nothing to say, you are here to play by our rules. Well fuck that. ‘Human being’ is a title you have to earn, and making art is one way to earn it. You are not a brand or a product; you’re a person, and a fucking beautiful one at that. Make your life a work of art. Spread joy. Share ideas. Create beauty. Be human. Fuck content. Make art.
