From the Perspective of a Teddy Bear | Alberta, Canada (1/3)

Join @hi.TravelBuddies on their miniature adventures in Canada’s wilderness.

Bear and Dino (with Dino’s mini Leica M6)

Julia is taking over our blog for a 3 part series documenting our travels through Alberta, Canada. These posts will be trading the street photography and camera reviews for something a little different. You will join her account “Hi Travel Buddies” and their miniature sized perspective for a lighthearted and fun story.

How it all started

Hi, we are travel buddies, a bearful Bear and a brave Dino, who likes to explore the world!

The Lady, who likes to visit different places, thought it would be nice to share these moments with someone. So she invited a little grey teddy bear, who first accompanied her two years ago. Traveling in a company is so much easier and more fun, wouldn’t you agree?

A while after others joined the team, the Man (Elijah) and his Dino. Visiting more and more places Dino and Bear decided to start a travel blog together so they could share their memories with You. This is how @hi.travelbuddies was born a bit more than a year ago.

Travel buddies have just had one of their biggest adventures recently. Bear has traveled all the way to Canada from Europe (Hungary) to meet his buddy, Dino! Here is their travel diary (part 1/3), enjoy!

We aren’t just cute models, we are photographers too…sometimes…it’s just alot of work because human cameras are so big!

New continent, flying bear? Challenge completed!

Bear has come a long way, and we are really excited to see him. But first he needs to go through these airport doors. And security. Which is good, Because Bear is very bearful and likes things to do carefully. The only thing they don’t like at airports is people taking pictures, so we had to do a small one. Here you go, Dino welcoming Bear on his first overseas trip.” — /Dino/

Waiting with our weclome to Canada “billboard” sign.

I arrived after a “short” flight (some ten-ish hours)… Don’t ask, I barely managed to reassure my Human, convincing her with all of my brave bear-energy that she won’t get lost…but checking in to your flight online from home, charging all your electronic devices and having internet connection accessible is not a bad idea after all. Just in any case, you know.

The man actually wrote a really useful article giving some travel tips. Check that out here.

First my Lady and I arrived in Calgary. It felt extremely bright after the European spring, and Canada welcomed us with extremely warm weather too. However, I have to say no weather caught me off guard!

Calgary (don’t we look cool? actually we were very warm) | Super tall buildings, woah!

Even though Calgary welcomed us with a surprising 25 degrees Celsius (77*F) at the beginning of May, I still felt comfy, because I was having my new t-shirts and other clothes too for this trip.

The air is so much cleaner and the sun is brighter partially because of the elevation, so using sun protection is not a bad idea. For Humans.

I’m fine in my fur coat, I think. Especially with all the snow which we found later. Would you believe May can be still snowy at places in Canada?

The “later” snow and my cool clothes!

Closer to the wild: Banff

We took it easy on our very first hike (more on the wilder stuff later) and made peace with the knowledge that there would be a crowd. There was. However, Johnston canyon was a great warm-up, not a very difficult walk, with beautiful waterfalls and breath-taking rock walls. This is the only group photo which was safe to take. With love!

Johnston Canyon!

On the third day of my trip to Canada, Humans got into their car and didn’t stop until we reached Canmore. Two of my immediate thoughts after we arrived:

1. Why is it 28 degrees here in the middle of spring?? (it is not like that usually in this part of the year, but the locals told us that in May this year the 150-year-old heat record was hit)

2. Everywhere you look, the landscape is breathtaking

Canmore is a very pretty little town, even the most hidden street corner is nicely organized without a single piece of garbage, and the cityscape is surrounded by beautiful mountains on all sides. Of course it’s gorgeous because it’s situated at the edge of Banff National Park

Cannnnnnnnmore!

I think I’m in sugar shock: there are ENTIRE shops here only with sweets!! You cannot really find these in Europe. Chocolate, milk caramel, fudge, candies, lollipops, bonbons, hazelnuts — and all of these come in a hundred versions… Bear-Paradise. And the strawberry flavored kit-kat bar, hmmmmm!! Hungary should import that!!

What’s that human saying? Like a bear in a candy shop! :)

Until next time, we hope you enjoyed our journey.

Next stop: Ha Ling Trail and Vermillion Lakes!
