Dear Hillary Clinton,

Gerard Mclean again, from Englewood, Ohio, just north of Dayton. This is the sixty-ninth letter of one hundred I am writing you on health care; one for each day between your nomination and your election. The previous letters can be found in your USPS mailbox or online at 100HRC.com

I caught the VP debate last night. Your opponent’s running mate said that if elected, they will repeal ObamaCare (ACA) “lock, stock and barrel.” I find the gun metaphor particularly offensive, but since it is the NRA-fueled Republican Party, I’ll let it slide.

Repealing the ACA entirely may be the dream of the GOP, but Americans should be reminded why the ACA was necessary in the first place. The “market-driven” health care system the GOP wants to return to was not working. The health insurance corporations were simply running out of customers. As Wall Street demanded profitability, the health insurance corporations jettisoned the sick, dying and old. They could not attract the young and healthy so there was no growth potential. The ACA pulled the health insurance industry from the edge of a precipice.

The health care corporations need the ACA and they know it. I think the reason they are not panicking now is they believe you will win.

I think you will win as well which is why I am taking the time and effort to write you these letters and not your opponent. We need SinglePayer, MedicareForAll, UniversalCare or as Bill said the other day, buy-in to Medicare. We’re not looking for a free hand out, just affordable health care.

Again, my kitchen table is open anytime you want to chat with about health care over coffee and pastries. Call first, though… in addition to three large dogs, there is some clutter I need to straighten up; just mostly photographs that need sorting into albums.
