What is slavery, and why is it crucial to know about it even today when we are all educated enough to know about it?
Slavery, as you all know, has played a tremendous role in our histories where hundreds to thousands of people faced threats and deaths. They couldn’t speak for themselves. They had to live in misery and wait for their annihilation to have peace. It’s hard to believe that people used to live in such conditions: however, it’s true even today.
Modern slavery is still unnoticed by many people, and sadly, only a few stands against it.
We should be thankful for technology because now many people know their rights and are fighting for it. Technological and digital tools have helped many of us to stand against the wrong. It has helped us in improving our lifestyles.
Let’s look at the changes that occurred in the past decade, which has helped people with the use of digital devices. Also, how these devices have accompanied us to fight against exploitation, slavery, and enhanced our lifestyles.
- Communicating threats via digital devices:
Digital devices have indeed improved our communications from long distances, like a person sitting in the US can easily communicate with the people sitting in Asia. However, communication is different when you need help and are locked in a room as a slave. These digital devices have helped many people in slavery and labour to free themselves.
For instance, in 2019, a woman who was under domestic abuse called 911 to order a pizza and helped herself to get free. When the call receiver answered that you had dialled the wrong number to call for a pizza to which she replied that no you are not understanding. The receiver quickly understood the situation that helped the woman to free herself from domestic abuse.
Such news gives power to others to free themselves and help others as well who are in critical situations.
- From getting robbed to scaring robbers:
Computers and other electronic device have made our lives uncomplicated than before. However, we still lack the sharpness of how we could use this technology for our benefits and safety. The robbery victims who face the threat of their homes getting robbed constantly can safeguard their home while they are away or in their home.
For instance, new technological devices are here to keep you aware all the time on your mobile phone.
- How?
New video doorbell that alerts the owners as soon as someone comes to their door. They can speak directly through the microphone and scare the robberies by talking through the camera. It has helped many users to feel secure and confident while they are away from their home because they could efficiently call the police when someone tries to rob their homes.
Additionally, these video doorbells have improved so much so that now it comes with multiple options to scare the robber away with just one tap of a finger.
- GPS Tracker:
GPS has proven to be our guider when we don’t know the way to our destination. It encourages us to be confident about our security.
When you visit a new place and don’t know about the city’s location very well, then all you need is your only friend ‘GPS’ or ‘Google Maps’ that’ll help you in reaching your destination without the fear of getting lost. It is not only helping individuals but also the states.
For instance, in 2010, Connecticut had monitored 168 high-risked domestic violence offenders with GPS trackers.
It proves the safety and security we have attained through GPS trackers.
Conclusively, it doesn’t matter how much we hate technology and digital devices in disrupting our environment, health, and other factors in our lives. It still proves to benefit us in regaining our confidence and safety from slavery to freedom.
