So as a new writer on Medium, and not having a clue to what I was doing when I first started, I was hyper-excited when I woke up and saw that one of my first stories had been read by a paid reader.

So I then checked out my stats…

A grand total of $.044 so far..

And you know what?

I was ecstatic!!!

Now some might say that I was getting a little carried away from such a small amount. But not to me. Because for me, it was not about the amount I made, but the fact that I had crossed a threshold that had been a lifelong dream of mine.

A dream that had never came to fruition for 53 years…

Until now.

I had now crossed that threshold into being a professional writer.

Someone had paid good money to read my work.

And to a lifelong reader and inspiring writer, that was priceless!

I have been a lot of things in life. One being a procrastinator. A habit so many have and refuse to accept. Until one day, at a X number of years, you realize that we only have so many days on this earth. We all have a shelf life, some longer than others. I accept that no more.

I hope to live a long and prosperous life, but no longer will I take tomorrow for granted.

I plan on using the mantra of a former writer, actor, comic, and genius who is no longer with us..

And now after my first week, I am amazed at the community of writers on here that are willing to help. For without mentorship, how can we grow at all in society when it comes to anything?

After 53 years on this Earth, I consider myself an expert in several things.

And none of those skills was I born with.

Someone taught me.

And is that not what it is all about? Reading is learning. And for us to read, someone must write..
