From Believing in Your Power to Revealing Arrogance: The Unexpected Side of Authority
Just be nice, a writer might be watching you
You were standing at the counter of the Sandwich shop. There was a line behind you, but you didn’t care. The feelings of the hard-working immigrants behind the counter were no concern to you.
Your large size and buzzcut along with the large sidearm in the holster around your waste. You pegged yourself as an alpha male. In your mind anyway, but to the customers watching and waiting to get something to eat, you were an asshole.
Taking your bad day out on people trying to serve you, is not classy
We all have bad days. Work can be stressful, especially if you’re in law enforcement or security. That doesn’t give you the right to be obnoxious toward people trying to earn a living doing a hard job.
I saw a lot of bad behavior in twenty years of working as a security guard. I was a guard at a bus terminal. An old man would have a fit every day when he missed his connecting bus because it left a minute too early.
I thought of that jerk when I was watching you show your ass. People like you give serving the public a bad name.
Catch an earlier bus, and have empathy toward people, it’s not rocket science
The thought of catching an earlier bus or sitting his watch to be a minute faster never crossed his mind. He wanted to cause a scene and call attention to himself, and that’s what he did. There are times to be angry. Being angry and abusing a minimum-wage employee who is doing the best she can is asinine.
It doesn’t matter if you have authority or carry a gun for personal reasons. Open carry is not a license for bad behavior. When the jerk left the sandwich shop. I told the lady behind the counter that she had more patience than I did.
People suck sometimes
Her answer made me sad for the human race. “ It’s okay, I’m used to it.” We should not accept bad behavior. Rudeness should not be par for the course. People lose their humanity by always wanting to score points by exerting power.
Learn to cope with stress, and learn empathy
We’re all under stress, I get it. It serves no purpose to abuse an underpaid fast-food worker. An Immigrant is living the American Dream. You’re not self-aware enough to realize you’re a caricature.
You’re a walking, talking knuckle-dragging stereotype of an American South. the South that’s long gone. I hope you’re not in law enforcement. If you are, I hope I never hear about you on the news.
Final Thought:
People working in Service Industries do the best they can working for low pay. It serves no purpose to be obnoxious to them. Show Immigrants the best of what their new Country can be. Being an Ass says more about your lack of character than the service you received.
Grow the Hell up.
