From Across Space and Time
A space poem
From tens of light-years away I have been longing for you space and time keep us apart I ache for your mission to be through
The first time we met you said you wanted to see the stars starlight was gleaming in your eyes you are, after all, from Mars
You talked about that wormhole that was all over the Holoweb a spontaneous formation of nature your enthusiasm would not ebb
I recall that day like it was yesterday I met a girl with her head above the clouds Earth would not be able to hold her for long about that, I harbored no doubts
You poured my hot coffee on me and apologized for being so sloppy I was warmed more by your smile though I asked your name and it was Poppy
After two years we were married but the stars kept on calling you like Sirens called Odysseus and his men I loved you so much that I spoiled you
After a lot of talk I convinced you to join the Interstellar Astronaut program I wanted you to follow your heart even if when you returned I’d be an older man
You passed the training with flying colors for that I never had a single doubt the time came for you to see the stars and for me to live in a long drought
You explained how time dilation works for each month in the wormhole you spent one year would pass on Earth for me and I quickly realized what that meant
Until you came back to Earth only one year would pass for you but 12 years would pass for me that was 8 years less than Odysseus
I joked, but you did not find it funny. So now six years have passed we are halfway in our space odyssey I hope the rest fly like a blast
When you return, my starlight, I will be 53 and you -biologically- are going to be 38 after being split by stars, space and time I’m sure our age gap will be a piece of cake
