Frequency Holder: Discovering I Can Bring Joy to Others in Simple Ways

Just before our local library closed about 2 weeks ago my husband and I went to check out several books to last us during the quarantine time we are living right now. My favorite sections of the library are two rows of self-help and spirituality books. I chose a few books that seemed to speak to me and I am so happy that I did.
Last night I started to read a book that I had chosen and I came upon an amazing passage. The book “Living with Intent” by Mallika Chopra mentioned a time when she went to chat with Eckhart Tolle. A particular section really spoke to me, it lit me up as if I had discovered another part of my personal puzzle! Have you had moments like that? I learned that there are people called “frequency holders.” I had never heard the term before. Here is what the passage said, and then I will go on to talk about the meaning for me.
There are people who are happy doing small things, he says. I call them frequency holders. They are just as important as those who create big things. Their purpose is to give their full attention to the present moment and to every action and interaction with other human beings- to be fully aware even in the smallest interactions. In that way, they also change the world for the better. In our culture, frequency holders aren’t often recognized, but that doesn’t mean they’re not important. I was a frequency holder for a long time and still am in many ways. — Eckhart Tolle (As Told to Mallika Chopra
This really jumped off the page at me, like it what speaking right to my heart and soul. Have your ever discovered something about yourself like this? Have you ever felt that there were some things about yourself that you didn’t completely understand, or you didn’t know your place in the world? That is how I feel some of my days.
Some days I wake up full of intent and purpose. My underlying goal is always to bring positivity and peace to every situation in life. However, I have a deep, inner critic who I call Esmeralda who sometimes gets in my way. I know she means well, but her comments often make my head spin and cause me to not know what to do next, or feel that what I am doing is not valuable or is not helping. In my heart I know I am doing good things, I am helping people in my own way, so I need to listen to the more powerful messages I get daily from my heart space.
I often hear things from Esmeralda in the background that say “ You’re not doing enough. You need to take more action, You need to support more people. You need to do something bigger.” When I am truly able to tune into my body and into my heart, these messages don’t make sense. When I listen to my heart, I know I am doing the best I can. I am giving it my all to keep a positive space for others.
As a professional organizer, I often say I “hold space” for others. Right now I am holding space on virtual calls with people. I can ask them questions, listen to their concerns and reassure them that we can create peaceful spaces for them in these times of unrest and anxiety. This is what I am here to do. It is not big, it is not grandiose, it will not win awards, but it lights me up every day to see what joy I can bring to people. This is what I am here on earth to do.
I can be a frequency holder in so many ways and this has brought a new purpose to my days, starting with today. I now look upon all of the activities that I do, all of the conversations that I have, and all of the intentions and thoughts that I put out into the world as important, positive frequencies that will help the world. We are all important in different ways. We can all make a difference.
If we work from our heart space, if we work from what lights us up, that will light others up. Here are some ways that I know I can help and these activities are things that I have always felt a deep calling to do:
- Creating and sending heartfelt cards and messages to friends and family. I love to tell people how important and amazing they are through the written word. I create cards with my calligraphy skills, decorate them, write encouraging words and send them.
- I love to share my heart and encouragement through writing. I am holding to my promise of writing 5 days a week so that I can share ideas that might help others.
- I love to share organizing ideas and help people in my free Facebook group. I love that others get ideas from this, share what they have done in their homes and ask me questions. I love to help people in this way.
- I love to have one-on-one video conversations with people. Before the quarantine I used to have 1–2 coffee meetings per week with different people I wanted to get to know better. Now I do this virtually. I love to make personal, deep connections with people. This is a lovely way to bring some joy.
- I can help clients by doing online consultations, reports and help coach them through decluttering and organizing through zoom calls. This is a great way to still provide services and hold space for people who need to create a comfortable home right now.
- I can provide positive posts about my days and my musings through Instagram and Facebook. I like to provide joy and encouragement on a daily basis. If I can make just one person smile or feel a little better in my day, I have done my job.
I may not be called to do big things like start a non-profit, start a worldwide movement or other huge undertakings as it is not in my nature. However, I can impact lives one by one by the people that I can serve virtually right now.
What kinds of activities are your drawn to do? Are you a frequency holder? How do you bring joy into the world? I would love to know!
With lots of love,
Trista
