Who is Louis Gauffier?

Louis Gauffier is a French painter who ignored his city to pursue his dream. He was born in a Western France town named Poitiers. He was brought up there, but his fascination with art has detached him from his birthplace. Moreover, his parents encouraged him to go with his dream of art. For this, his parents send him for higher studies at the French Academy of Arts, Paris, in 1784. There, he practiced his skills. Gauffier’s love for art is undeniable.
At the age of 22, he won the Roman Award in the All European Competition. When he went to receive the award, he was attracted to Rome. He decided to live there and enjoy the art. He lived there for six years.
After that, he has to return to his birthplace. The lack of art teachers at the French Academy of Arts pulls his legs to France. He did not feel much satisfaction there, so he resigned from the academy. He decided to return to Rome and settle there for the rest of his life.
Unfortunately, things did not go well. The breakdown of the French Revolutions in 1789 affected Gauffier’s life. During this period, he married to a model, Pauline, who gave birth to his two children. Gauffier moved to Italy with his family. He lived the rest of his life in Florence, Italy.
