This poem of mine illustrates the many benefits of mindfulness. Mindfulness clears the mind (“mental purging”), leads to the acquiring of new skills/insights (“wealth in the form of knowledge and health”), and above all helps one to see the value of embracing each moment as it comes! Through this poem, I also illustrate that mental health recovery is never linear! It is a choppy ocean at times, but the important thing is to turn to face the waves because continuing to run from them only makes them grow.

Mental health… is not a destination, but a process. Freedom in a Moment

The power of mindfulness

© Aristides Milios

While sitting on the ferry boat’s deck, she could feel herself craning her neck. She just wanted to take in the magical view, in the hopes of a mental breakthrough.

Living in this moment offered some inner peace, and a place free of the perfectionism police. When her compulsive urges were surging, mindfulness helped her do a mental purging.

She knew she was destined to be free, yet her journey felt as choppy as the sea. But along the way she was gaining wealth — riches in the form of knowledge and health.

She was so grateful for each mellow moment, from the universe a marvelous bestowment. The freeing power she felt on her path to recovery was from embracing the moments of self-discovery.
