Free Microsoft Certification Renewal Offer

Did you know that your Microsoft certifications have an expiry date! Most Microsoft certifications expire after three years. You have to retake the exam to recertify and maintain valid certification. This meant additional costs for the exams. The strain and time needed for passing an exam cannot be discounted.

Microsoft introduced an easy way for us to stay current with the certifications in Dec 2020. That too for free. But many of us are unaware of it.

What is it? People who have an active certification expiring within six months can make use of this opportunity. The eligible candidates can renew the certification annually by passing a renewal assessment on the Microsoft Learn platform. All for free!

Requirements

You have a valid Microsoft role-based or specialty certification.
The certificate is due for expiry in the next six months.
To renew, you need to pass the relevant assessment on Microsoft Learn.
You need to attempt and pass the exam before the certification expires.

How to renew your certification

Log in to the Microsoft Learn Portal https://learn.microsoft.com
Click on your profile icon and then Profile > Certifications
Ensure your certification profile is connected to your Docs (Learn)profile.

Once this step is done, as soon as you are eligible for renewal (i.e. exam expiring in the next 6 months) Microsoft will email you a notification directing you to the assessment that will be available on Microsoft Learn.
