Four Reasons Trump Did Not Wish To Leave Office

His voters believe in him, not in the constitution

People overlooked whatever he said, for democracy.

Around 47% of American voters chose to ignore Trump’s 20,000 bogus attacks, conspiracy theories, brags, and incorrect information. He claimed, for instance, that Obama spied on his campaign, the U.S. economy was in its best shape, his promised border wall was being built, his tax cut was the biggest in history, etc. The Washington Post has written a 384-page book about his lies: Donald Trump and His Assault on Truth: The President’s Falsehoods, Misleading Claims and Flat-Out Lies.

Why everybody ignored Trump’s lies? Because good democracies ignore the crimes and lack of character of their leaders to protect democracy. That is a tradition. Remember Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon in 1974. But is there a limit to this democratic tradition of overlooking moral turpitude?

Donald Trump’s lethal flaws deserve punishment, not appeasement. Only psychologists can tell the full scale of his delusions. The idea of losing is anathema to him because his father never liked losers, Mary Trump said in an interview.

People thought Trump would exit peacefully in 2021 or 2025. But political analysts from CNN, The Atlantic, the New York Times, the Washington Post, MSNBC, and Washington Monthly feared military action would be required to remove him from office. Even Bill Mahar and Joe Biden had expressed their doubts.

Fred Kaplan believed Trump’s effort to stick around would be futile. In June 2020, Fred said if Trump insisted on staying in power after losing the elections, he might be charged with incitement or insurrection.

Unfortunately, 45% of the Republicans are okay with the coup: James Walker, in his report in the Newsweek, said that 45 percent of Republican voters support the storming of the Capitol Building in a survey released by YouGov.

Here are the four reasons Trump did not wish to leave office:

#1 — His supporters worshipped him as a god

In 2019, an anti-Trump group formed in the Republican party, called Lincoln Project. Rick Wilson is the co-founder of this group.

In a telephone interview with Amanpour and Company, he said, “The entire episode did not shock me. Everything that Trump touches dies. He has corrupted the institutions and made them fragile.”

“Trumpism is a cultural problem, and that culture is defiant of traditions of morality. His voters believe in him, not in the constitution. If he says something or does something, that’s what they believe. If Trump said he was in favor of child sacrifice, his supporters will say, ‘yes, we should consider child sacrifice.’”

His supporters do not question his intent. They think he is a god — and being a god can be kind of addictive. He thinks everybody loves him.

#2 — He didn’t want to face corruption charges

He knew his time was running out.

According to Jane Mayer of the New Yorker, more than a dozen investigations and civil suits are currently under way. She says Trump could end in an even more precarious situation than the one faced by Richard Nixon.

Trump has been impeached twice, faced six bankruptcies, accused of sexual misconduct more than twenty-six times, lived through two divorces, and is involved in more than four thousand lawsuits.

Russ Buettner, Susanne Craig, and Mike McIntire of The NYTimes reported their findings based on Trump’s tax information for the last two decades. It revealed struggling properties, large write-offs, an audit battle, and more than three hundred million in debt coming due in the next four years.

#3 — His dad hated losers

Mary L. Trump tells the story of how her family created the world’s most dangerous man in her book Too Much and Never Enough. Mary is Donald’s niece.

Mary’s book uses the word grandfather 247 times. Donald Trump’s father, Frederick Christ Trump, is his significant other as the term is used in Sociology — suggesting ‘any person with a strong influence on an individual’s self-concept.’ Though his dad died in 1999, Trump is always standing in front of his father.

His father believed losers were the worst kind of people. So, Donald thought of life as a competition to win. When his father died, Donald gave a happy quote for his New York Times obituary. “It was good for me,” he said. “You know, being the son of somebody, it could have been competition to me. This way, I got Manhattan all to myself!”

For Donald Trump, the election was only a competition he had to win. Nothing mattered as long as he was the winner.

#4 — Being President is cool

Firing people as the Commander-in-Chief seems way nicer than firing actors on The Apprentice.

At the age of 25, his classmates were looking for a job. But Trump was more eager to get the membership of a prestigious club. Writing a book, like The Art of the Deal, or playing golf, or owning Trump Tower, are all ways to look cool.

If he did not think becoming the President was cool, he would not have even tried — though he always liked free publicity. His delusional paranoia tells him ways to look cool.

Cool is a big part of his thinking. Being rich is cool. His supermodel wife looks cool. A cool daughter? Hair, maybe? If it was not that, why do you think half of America voted for him? For his brilliant political acumen and apt socio-economic reforms?

Who changes his ancestry to look cool? Many people don’t trust The Art of the Deal. One reason is it lies about Frederick Christ Trump. The book claims that the Trumps were Swedish, when in fact, they were German. His family’s original name is Drumpf, and his father could speak German.

Trump is not cool, ask John Oliver. He is the ‘little fingered vulgarian’ who is ‘all smug and gassy.

Final Thoughts

Five people died during the riot. Brian Sicknick, a police officer, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The other four were rioters: Ashli Babbit, Benjamin Phillips, Kevin Greeson, and Roseanne Boyland. The police arrested at least fifty-two people.

On Tuesday night, The House of Representatives passed a resolution asking Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment for the removal of the president from office.

On Wednesday, The House impeached Trump for “incitement of insurrection” at last week’s Capitol riot. Ten Republicans voted against Trump to impeach the president by 232–197. He has become the first president in US history to be impeached twice.

This is Donald Trump’s legacy. Something for which he will be remembered even after hundreds of years. The joker of politics.
