Four K-Drama’s You Should Go Watch Right Now
If you have not explored the world of “K-Drama’s” you are missing out on some awesome storytelling, fun filming and great writing. I got hooked into the world of Korean Drama’s when my sister shared the show, “The Good Doctor,” with me which is a medical drama (starring Joo Won, Moon Chae-won and Joo Sang-wook) and with that I had to see more. I was so intrigued and wanted to see how a different culture from mine created Television. So down below are four show’s that are a must see on my list.
If you are not fluent in Korean and cannot understand it, like myself, they do have English subtitles to follow along with the story. And don’t worry after a while you don’t even realize you are reading the subtitles along with watching the show. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying these projects that many people worked really hard on.
Also, something I also found interesting is that a lot of the Korean Drama’s that I have watched only have one season of the show. They usually tell the entire story line within the 15–20 episodes, give or take a few. Due to this, the episodes do have a longer run time on an average of an hour and ten minutes but some can be shorter or longer depending on the program.
[Now these are just four that stand out to me but there is an entire world of Korean Drama’s with many styles and story lines that I am sure you could find one that you will fall in love with! If you are sensitive to certain types of subject matter please do some research on the summaries of each show before watching in full.]
- Chocolate
Such a simple name that sounds like a cooking show but do not let the name fool you. Yes there is chocolate in the show but there is so much more under the wrapper in the gift box... If you are into medical drama’s and a little bit of romance, then this is the show for you. Not only do you get the excitement of the hospital world, you also get to see relationships grow and diminish. This show is full of beautiful locations, language and moments that will keep your attention. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself.
This is starring actors Ha Ji-won, Yoon Kye-sang, Jang Seung-jo, Teo Yoo and many others.
2. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (Also known as, Goblin)
Goblin is about an unlikely paring and a lot of misdirection. You will be constantly changing your predictions of what is going to happen within the storyline while watching this one. It creates a twist on what it means to be “soul mates” and what really is life and death? This is a program filled with comedy, drama and a love story. The sets, costumes and overall production is hitting their mark. Take a weekend and get lost in the fantasy.
This is starring Gong Yoo, Kim Go-eun, Lee Dong-wook, Yoo In-na and Yook Sungjae along with many others.
3. The King: Eternal Monarch
If you like a more edgy, gory, exciting style of show, then this is one that you want to have on your “add to my watch list” on Netflix. I don’t want to give too much away but it will leave you with questions that will make you hit “play” or “continue watching” on the program when Netflix is judging how long you have been enjoying some time in front of the screen. The acting is dynamic and challenging. The costumes and locations are very telling to the story and add an element that is helping define the timeline being told.
This is starring Lee Min-Ho, Kim Go-eun, Do-Hwan Woo, Kyung-Nam Kim, Eun-chae Jung, Jung-Jin Lee and many others.
4. Law School
If you like a good mystery, then this is the one for you. Full of real life drama, stresses of school life, backdoor deals and so many things in-between, you will be constantly moving along the storyline of this one. The acting is fluid, the comedy is sprinkled in, and the overall production is well put together.
Disclaimer: There is a trigger warning for this show. It does deal with a lot of subject matter that can be hard or triggering for some views including murder, abusive relationships and sexual misconduct. Please be aware of this when deciding to watch this program.
This is starring Kim Bum, Ryu Hye-Young, Go Yoon Jung, Kim Myung-min and Lee Soo Kyung to name a few among this awesome cast.
Happy Watching.
