Former House Speaker Paul Ryan Has Written A Book
Another book about Trump
He spent years working in the Capitol
Paul Ryan was a respected Republican member of the United States House of Representatives for twenty years. He represented Wisconsin’s 1st District and had served as Speaker of the House. It was somewhat of a surprise when he chose to retire.
While he was Speaker of the House, Ryan was critical of Former President Trump and some other Republicans who were aligned with Trump. He apparently thought their actions were bad for the Republican Party and the country. Ryan and Trump continued to have their differences. Ryan decided to retire from Congress in 2019.
Republicans could have used his level headed thinking.
Hannah Getahun had an article in Business Insider titled: “Paul Ryan said he doesn’t normally cry, but ‘found himself sobbing’ while watching the Jan 6. insurrection, book says.”
Former House Speaker Paul Ryan said he began to cry while watching the Jan. 6 riot on television.
Ryan told journalist Mark Leibovich the Capitol riots “disturbed” him, CNN reported.
“I spent my whole adult life in that building,” Ryan told Leibovich. “And I saw my friends, a lot of cops, some of my old security detail — I’m still friends with a bunch of those guys. It really disturbed me, foundationally.”
Getahun reported that Ryan spoke at a political event in South Carolina and said that Congressional Republicans “didn’t have the guts” to impeach Trump after the January 6 riot. Trump fired back by calling Ryan a “pathetic loser” and “weak RINO.”
Ryan further said about the election: “It was not rigged. It was not stolen. Donald Trump lost the election. Joe Biden won the election. It’s really clear.”
Ryan will likely be criticized for his words about crying. Another former Republican Speaker of the House from 2011 to 2015, John Boehner, was regularly seen shedding tears as he spoke. He showed his emotions and was sometimes criticized for it. Ryan was stating his feelings about the insurrection which brought out emotion in him. It hit “close to home” for him.
There is no shortage of books about Trump. Many of his former friends and allies as well as his enemies (including his own niece) have written books about him. The Trump followers are not likely to buy the derogatory books, but they are obviously interested in the books which are favorable to him. There are both kinds.
The new book by Ryan is titled Thank You for Your Servitude: Donald Trump’s Washington and the Price of Submission. Ryan tells his story of how Trump came to dominate the GOP. It includes interviews from Republican leaders such as Sen. Lindsay Graham, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger.
Paul Ryan had the courage to stand up to Trump. He became an outsider to the Trump segment of the Republican Party for doing so.
