Forgiving You For Me

The true purpose of forgiveness

I have always felt alone. The path to walk was never shown. Empty voices echo in my mind. Telling me that it is time to try.

It is time to try to live.

It seems like a small thing to you, But life was almost stolen away. Hiding my scars, conforming; Never letting my true self through.

The real me didn’t see the light of day. Now I choose to uncover the scars. Wear them like armor. No shame.

For I am not to blame for their existence. You know what you did. I could share your existence with the world. But your name I will not mention.

Forgiveness is not about your absolution.

For revenge is not sweet. It is bitter. For resentment does nothing to you, All it does is kill my soul.

It will never kill yours.

So this is my final statement. If you care to hear the truth. I survived your torture. Now I thrive.

I don’t hate you.

Maybe you will change. Though I doubt that you can. But know that I forgive you, For all that I experienced at your hands.

I release my mind from resentment; I will not continue to hold these scars. I don’t forgive you to erase your crime. I forgive you for me.

With this forgiveness, I set my soul free.
