For Your Eyes Only

I hope my great, great great, great grandchildren will one day read this poem on their comically large iPhone 392XXRs.
Although our circumstances may differ, I have a strong feeling our experiences will mirror each other.
They will have lost and gained friends and fallen in and out of love and questioned their identity and struggled to cornrow their hair just like me.
With each word I write, I pour into them my empathy, pride and love — so much love it makes me want to sing Stevie Wonder and dance in the middle of the street.
Maybe one day, in a dream, I can sit with them face to face and tell them these stories myself. But until then, this will have to do.
I’ll see you soon.
