Aging
For Those Who Don’t Live
Time keeps running out.
My mother is heading towards 60 now, and I always admired how she constantly pushes herself to do the things that matter most to her. Almost every weekend, you will find her doing another adventurous and engaging activity. She never allows a moment to go by without stating her truth. She lives in the moment but maintains respectful regard for the future. She understands that death is inevitable and chooses to make the most of right now.
Though her PTO balance will always be negative because she chooses not to overwork herself, invest in her self-care, and take time to rejuvenate, her professional career has been immensely successful.
For those who don’t live, this article is for you. Time never ceases. Time is not waiting for you. Time is not your friend, which is why you must maximize your relationship with time, so you can experience a full life instead of a life of wishes, regrets, and “should haves.”
For those who don’t live:
- Travel to that one country that you have always imagined yourself visiting.
- Learn the language that you have always wanted to speak, and don’t quit.
- Buy that new outfit you can’t stop thinking about since you first saw it.
- Be proud of your strengths. Accept your weaknesses — without shame.
- Don’t get too caught up in work that you forget to enjoy the moment.
- Buy the dream car you have always wanted (if you can afford it).
- Watch an inspirational movie followed by a comedy movie.
- Grow into a more positively developed person each day.
- Create a bucket list and check things off of it — often.
- Dance in the mirror while listening to a groovy song.
- Listen to your favorite songs while you are at work.
- Eat that cupcake to celebrate you just being YOU.
- Stop waiting for a moment that may never come.
- Eat your favorite meal and SAVOR it — slowly.
- Be someone you want to be around — often.
- Do something you have never done before.
- Take a selfie (it doesn’t have to be posted).
- Take a walk on your lunch break at work.
- Enjoy the sounds and feels of nature.
- Listen to the sounds all around you.
- Smell everything all around you.
- Love yourself more each day.
- Celebrate yourself every day.
- Live and eat healthy — often.
- Take a day trip to the beach.
- Breathe — slowly and often.
- Smile and laugh all at once.
- Be your best self each day.
- Be yourself every day.
- Give frequently.
- Never get old.
Final Thoughts
All we ever will have is this moment. The next moment and the next moment after that are never promised to us. Live. Live right now. Do the things you hope and dream about doing. Be the best you can be. And don’t forget to live. Sooner than later, you’ll reflect on your life; which person will you be:
- The person that lived, enjoyed enriching experiences, didn’t procrastinate on their dreams, didn’t hold back on saying the things that needed to be said, and lives in the moment — with respectful regard to the future.
- The person that didn’t live, put off their dreams, put others before themselves, was always overworked, didn’t have as much fun as they could, kept putting off the bucket list, and never lived in the moment, but instead the past.
