For the New Year, Let’s Put the Customer Back in Customer Service

A continuing saga with AT&T could be with any company.

Unsatisfied customer, thumbs down from istockphoto.com.

The following rant is about At&T, but it could be about any company.

In the past two years, I’ve had similar frustrating experiences with at least a dozen companies.

Looping phone trees, Customer Service Representatives tasked with doing whatever it takes to get the customer off the phone. Donotreply email addresses. Companies have perfected the art of being unavailable, incompetent and useless.

The company that prepared my taxes highlights their 5-star online customer service at the top of their website. They don’t actually have an online customer service.

The problem is that nearly every company is doing it. Customers flee a bad experience at AT&T to have even worse experiences at Spectrum, Comcast, or Frontier.

If we really want to make changes for the better for everyone in the new year, let’s convince these companies to restore their customer service.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my most recent experience with AT&T.

I wanted to watch TV, so I powered down my computer and turned off my phone.

I have to do this so that the TV doesn’t crash halfway through the show I’m watching.

While I’m watching TV, I think of something that involves checking an app on my phone. Without thinking, as I shouldn’t have to, I turn on my phone. The TV goes black.

Both my computers are powered down. My printer is turned off. Alexa is powered down. This is absurd. A person ought to be able to use TWO devices on the AT&T network if they are paying $65 a month for their non-existent service.

This has been happening for a couple of weeks now. Yes, I’ve rebooted the router. Repeatedly. Yes, I’ve called customer service. Several times. Yes, I’ve tried the useless app that AT&T recommends. It tells me that my service is “great!”. Other apps tell me otherwise.

My average speed when it isn’t 0/mbps hovers around 2/mbps. Far below the “up to 10/mbps” advertised on my current plan. This lying app does absolutely nothing but gaslight irate customers with technical issues and get them off the phone.

Obviously, I want to cancel my account since AT&T is incompetent, making excuses while giving me the same non-solutions over and over again, doing NOTHING to help. I refuse to pay early termination fees considering that I believe I never really had internet services with AT&T in the first place.

I am livid. I am frustrated. I know that my issue is the type that could have been easily solved in the past back when companies at least made a minimal effort to assist their customers.

That just makes me want to cancel even more.

I have given up chatting online with bots and CSRs forced to stick to a script that offers no solution as the only solution.

I am sick of calling to deal with phone trees and being transferred from department to department until the system finally hangs up on me.

I am sick of being billed for equipment that I’ve already returned. I am sick of donotreply email addresses. I am fed up with everything AT&T and companies like them have done to avoid their customers while conjuring up every possible hidden charge they can imagine to screw us over, acting as if what they are doing is perfectly normal and acceptable.

Well, it is NOT acceptable, and it is NOT normal.

I know when I call again AT&T is going to tell me they want to fix my issue.

They’ve been saying that for a couple of weeks now, but their words mean nothing once the conversation ends. It’s New Year’s Eve and I can’t use any apps on my phone while watching TV. I can’t check my email or get on the internet while the TV is on.

If they couldn’t provide the service promised, they should have said so. Happy New Year. I will not see any responses to my post tonight since I want to watch TV and so I must turn off my computer.

Only sick and greedy sociopaths would think that these things are normal.

I wish I had one of AT&T’s C-suite executives here to kick in the balls every time their shoddy service failed. Perhaps short of a guillotine that is one of the few ways they would understand the EVIL they have perpetrated on society.

We have all been disempowered and dehumanized by faceless narcissists who thrive on our frustration and misery.

They feed off of our negativity. They are turning us against each other. They are destroying society. They are destroying America. They are traitors and should be treated as such. It’s about time they were given a taste of their own medicine.

It’s a new year, a time for new beginnings. Let’s make 2022 the year we make live a little bit more livable again for everyone by putting the customer back into customer service.
