Summary

The article critiques the selective political activism in football, particularly the hypocrisy and potential for increased racism against Russians amidst the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Abstract

The author expresses concern over the football community's response to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, noting a stark contrast between the support for Ukraine and the silence on other global conflicts. The article points out the Premier League's sudden solidarity with Ukraine, while ignoring Saudi Arabia's involvement in Yemen and its human rights record, suggesting a bias influenced by political alliances. It highlights the UN's ruling on the illegality of the US invasion of Iraq, questioning why similar outrage wasn't shown then. The author argues that the sanctions against Russia are essentially targeting its people rather than its government and warns against the potential rise in anti-Russian sentiment and discrimination. The piece calls for a more nuanced understanding of the situation, urging people to support Russian individuals and businesses to counteract the prejudice being fueled by governmental and media narratives.

Opinions

  • The author perceives the Premier League's pro-Ukraine stance as hypocritical, given its silence on other conflicts and human rights abuses, particularly those involving allied countries like Saudi Arabia.
  • There is a skepticism about the true intentions behind the sanctions against Russia, suggesting they are part of a strategy to incite internal opposition to Putin rather than a genuine concern for the Ukrainian people.
  • The article suggests that the current political climate is being manipulated to serve specific agendas, with the risk of fostering blind racism against Russians.
  • The author criticizes the West's historical selective outrage, highlighting the lack of reaction to the US invasion of Iraq compared to the current situation with Russia and Ukraine.
  • The piece advocates for empathy and support towards Russian people, who are likely to suffer the most from the sanctions and global political maneuvering.
  • It is argued that the football community's involvement in politics is not about peace or solidarity but rather about adhering to governmental and corporate interests.

Footballs Stands Together (Unless You are Russian)

Anti-Russian rhetoric can quickly turn to blind racism

Ukraine football fans (Wikicommons)

‘Football Stands Together’ backed by the Ukrainian flag is washed all over Premier League material right now.

At the start of football matches, teams walk out draped in Ukrainian flags. Some have gone as far as playing the Ukrainian national anthem. And yeah, I know I am supposed to weep with everyone right now and hop onboard the anti-Russia train.

Because to do some actual research and develop a more balanced view would be just plain unpatriotic, wouldn’t it?

You see, The Premier League likes to say things like,

‘Football stands together’.

Meanwhile, other clubs are Saudi Arabian state-owned businesses. And, in case you missed it, the Saudis have been fucking Yemen for the last ten years. But it’s a US-backed war, so that’s just fine. Let’s also ignore their horrific human rights record especially their sick policies toward women. That's all fine cos they are buddies with Biden.

And, let’s be honest, if it were just about countries illegally invading other countries, every single football club in the UK would be banned from operating, not just clubs like Chelsea and Everton, whose directors happen to be Russian.

Then there are especially those clubs with US owners since the US is the world leader in the illegal invasion.

The US invasion of Iraq was officially deemed illegal by the UN (Guardian) and did ya see anyone fucking draped in Iraqi flags and boycotting US businesses?

Kofi Annan and the UN officially ruled that the US invasion of Iraq was illegal and what was done about it? (Wikicommons)

Has anybody noticed that the sanctions against Russia are just sanctions against the Russian people?

Can somebody please explain why football has to get involved with world politics?

You cant say football stands together and then punish anybody involved in the game who is Russian. Or can you? I mean it’s just all linked up these days, isn’t it? Governments, Corporations, Media — why do we bother even having separate names for what is just one giant shitstain world-fucking network?

Why is a football club being brought to it’s knees over this?

Sure, the owner of Chelsea football club isn’t the most honest of business people, but as Reuben Salsa said in a recent Tweet,

It’s precisely this. No one has given a fuck about his dealings in the past, but now the powers that be have realised they can use the Chelsea owner and other high-level Russian businesspeople in a game called,

Poke the oligarchs till they kick Putin out of power

Which, let’s face it, has probably been the fucking whole point of this entire exercise.

Lead by example, and the idiots will follow

And, of course, if you understand why it’s all happening, at least you can see that the show of Ukrainian flags and all that is potentially just a big part of the greater strategy of kicking Putin out of power.

I mean no one has given a single fuck like this about any of the countless other wars that have happened in the last twenty years.

No one in the West has even blinked a fucking eye.

And, it wouldn’t be the first time the Russian people have turned on their leader.

Just piss the Russian people off massively — particularly the rich ones until they meet the surreptitious demands of the West to revolt.

But a dangerous side-effect of the whole process is the monkeys with drums aka the general public following the examples of their leaders.

  • How long before the Russian Bakery down the road gets firebombed?
  • How long before Russian people are spat on in the street?

Isn’t this what happens?

The example of governments right now is not a message of peace.

It is a message of hatred toward Russia.

And the only ones suffering because of that are the Russian people. Of course, no government will give a flying fuck about that because they have their own god damn agenda and if they can con the people into going along with it, they don't have to worry about losing corporate sponsorship or votes by the next election.

So look, here’s what ya do.

Instead of wearing Ukrainian flags and focusing entirely on the one isolated side of this; Instead of concentrating on the one thing that your government and the media insist you concentrate on, Why not spare a thought for the Russian people around the world?

Why not refuse to adopt the straight dangerous anti-Russia prejudice that is happening right now?

  • Buy something from a Russian business.
  • Send a message of support to Russian people and business owners around the world.
  • Use the services of Russian people

Show them that we are intelligent enough to not be tricked into boycotting Russian people and business just because our corrupt governments are manipulating us into doing so.

Because it is the Russian people, not the politicians, who will feel the repercussions of this in their lives for many years to come.
