Food Shortages Are Coming! Stock Up On These Non Perishable Food Items.
It helps to stay prepared.
Every other day, I come across a headline about food shortages.
There’s even a shortage of baby formula!
Some say these food shortages are a consequence of the Ukraine War!
Others say this is a result of supply chain disruptions stemming from a 2-year pandemic.
I don’t know what’s causing it! But I know — it’s best to prepare as inflation is also soaring, driving the cost of basic goods continuously up.
Here are some simple and versatile food items you can stock up on in your pantry:
Carbohydrates
Flour: You can make bake your own bread, and cakes, and even make dumplings with them. It can be wheat flour, buckwheat flour, or chickpea flour. Any flour of your liking.
Oatmeal: Oatmeal is nutritious and filling. And stores well.
Rice: Rice is a cost-efficient investment. You can buy a large sack of rice and can expect it to last you for months. Rice goes with everything and anything. Rice is dry and stores well. Just make sure to tie it and seal it properly to prevent weevils and bugs from going into them.
Pasta: Pasta is easy to store and stores really well. Easy to make delicious and cheap meals with
Ramen Noodles: Now, I don’t need to tell you the convenience of having a pack of noodles on standby when your house is dry.
Any other cereals, sugars, and dry grains you can think of.
Proteins
Powdered milk: It’s great to have powdered milk in your pantry. Especially, if you consume milk or have children who eat a lot of cereal. Powdered milk can also come in handy for hot chocolate drinks and your dry cereals. They’re different types of powdered milk available. eg. Coconut milk and cow milk.
Beans(Dry Beans or Canned Beans): Both dry and canned beans store well, and are a great source of protein. Beans are versatile and can be used to make a wide variety of delicious decisions. It can go with rice, stews, soups, and even with bread, like a burrito.
Chickpeas (Dry or Canned Chickpeas): They both store well and are highly nutritious.
Canned Meats (Like Tuna, Sardines, Salmon, and Sausages): Fresh is always better. But in times like these, it doesn’t hurt to have this protein like this at home, especially if you have a large family with children. You can make low-cost meals like sandwiches and hotdogs for your children.
Vegetables
Canned or Bottled Tomato (paste, sauce, diced, and pasta sauce): Tomato always comes in handy and can be used on a multitude of dishes like pizza, stews, and a variety of tomato-based sauces, that can go with rice, vegetables, and pasta.
Canned Vegetables like green peas, spinach, collard greens, etc. Although I’m not a huge fan of canned vegetables, I can understand that desperate times call for desperate measures.
Frozen fruits and vegetables: you can use them to get make smoothies, and steam them as a side to your dishes.
