Follow This To Create The Perfect Password

Staying safe and secure online doesn’t have to be difficult

Previously, I showed you how to use the random 3-word system to create unique passwords. How did you get on?

An alternative to this is to come up with a phrase and create a password using the first letter of each word.

Option 1

You might use the phrase: “My favourite place in the world is at home with my family”. By taking the first letter of each word, your password would then be ‘MFPITWIAHWMF’

That’s a great password.

It’s not a dictionary word that hackers could find using a computer programme, and it would be extremely hard to guess.

However, mix it up with some upper and lower cases. You could replace certain letters with numbers; for example, replace the ‘I’ with a ‘1’ and replace the ‘A’ with a ‘4’.

Now you have ‘MFP1TW14HWMF’ (or ‘Mfp1tw14HwmF’)

Maybe you can introduce a special character — ‘Mfp1tw1&HwmF’.

This password would be impossible to guess and is much more secure than using a birthdate, or family names.

You still need to create separate passwords for all your accounts, but if you make them memorable, then the difficulty in remembering them is reduced.

Option 2

You could create a memorable phrase based on the actual account; for example “I buy everything from Amazon because they make it so simple”.

This becomes: 1BeFABTmi55

In case you’re wondering, this is not my Amazon password

See how I used the number 5 to represent the S, and a 1 for the I.

So this is a password for Amazon (or any site you choose, that begins with A)

You could replace the A with the initials of another account, and you’d have unique passwords. Of course, you’d need to be a little creative when the site has the same initial, but I think you understand the concept.

On the other hand, a password manager will make all this go away and in a future post, I’ll show how they can help you.

Until then, stay safe online (and change some more passwords 🔐)
