Follow Me On My Next 30-Day Medium Challenge
Because time flies when you’re kicking your own butt.
Catherine the Great supposedly did the five hardest things on her to-do list first thing in the morning to get them out of the way.
Like, Have my serfs in California send me more furs, and Remove my husband from office.
You get the idea.
In the before times, before I took a long haitus from Medium, I’d typically write, proof, post, and market my article before 9 am, when I’d turn to the gigs I relied on to pay the rent.
Such productivity requires building a muscle. Back in the day when I worked out at the gym regularly, I could lift any object in my apartment, including heavy pieces of furniture. Now a heavy pot can break me if I don’t do a minimum set of reps every day.
Same with getting my Medium work done.
My 30-day writing challenge taught me that I’d lost my mojo in so many respects. What used to take an hour or two, now required hours and hours and sometimes day of effort.
I was happy just to hit publish.
This month, depending on my other commitments, I can get an articule out on the airwaves by noon. But that doesn’t include marketing it. Posting it in several of the Facebook groups I’m in and reciprocating by reading the work of other members of those groups.
Posting it on social media.
Responding to comments, looking up new followers, and so forth.
While I’m happy with my results–after Medium gave me my adjusted income, I’d earned $103.43 for the month, I see I need to get busy marketing.
And market better and more than I did last time.
This isn’t the Medium of old. More writers and fewer readers. Less coin flowing from on-high.
Unlike Catherine II, I always push things I don’t like aside. Not so much offing inconvenient spouses, but learning to market better.
So for my next 30-day challenge, I will spread my name far and wide and learn how others suucceed where I fail.
I’ll become a regular reader of Better Marketing.
I’ll look for marketing posts, articles by J.J. Pryor and others who keep their eye on Medium success stories.
Each day for the next thirty days, I will attempt to learn something new about marketing. I will also implement it, and make it part of my daily routine.
As I did with my writing challenge, I’ll pass on what I learn.
Medium may not be the cash cow it was when I first joined, but money isn’t the only reason I’m writing here anymore.
But as long as I’m writing here, I want it to be as profitable as possible, in every way possible.
Care to join me on my challenge?
