Summary

The author proposes a "READ for READ" challenge to foster genuine reader engagement and growth on Medium, contrasting with the prevalent "follow for follow" trend.

Abstract

The author reflects on the inadequacy of the "follow for follow" challenge on Medium, noting that while it may help in increasing follower numbers, it does not guarantee an audience genuinely interested in reading and engaging with the content. To address this, the author introduces the "READ for READ" challenge, aiming to cultivate a dedicated readership and encourage meaningful interactions between writers and readers. The challenge involves reading two of the author's blogs, clapping for them based on personal interest, providing feedback on the most liked parts, and following the author if the reader finds the content appealing. The author commits to reciprocating these actions for participants, ensuring mutual growth and the development of a reading habit within the community.

Follow for follow and 30 days writing challenge is too mainstream, how about READ for READ challenge?

I was wondering this morning that my medium feed is flooded with follow for follow challenge which to some extent helps.

But the real challenge is to build a genuine reader base who are really interested to read your blogs. I have been thinking about it from few days and finally an idea struck my today. All of us here are participating in this follow for follow challenge, which gives us followers but not the readers.

It can help us get enrolled in Medium Partner Program but not help us spread our thoughts that we write to a greater audience. Also, when not many people read your blog you don’t earn anything out of it.

So here is my READ for READ challenge for all of us. It will not only help us find the right reader base but also help us find right writer base to follow and help us in building a daily reading habit.

The rules are as follows:

  • Read any two of my blogs of your interest until the end.
  • Give as many claps as you like based on how you liked it.
  • Respond to both blogs highlighting the part you liked the most, so that I know which two you have read and what you liked the most.
  • Follow me at the end if you find out that my blogs interests you and you would like to read more from me.
  • I will also do the above four steps for all of you who participate in this challenge.

This way we can help each other grow organically without being building just follower base but also reader base.

You can also continue this challenge on your profile but please link this story while doing it to give me little credit. I’ll be really glad to if you could help me back.

Let’s get started and make this challenge a grand success!
