Flying Even When It Scares You
A haiku

“She was afraid of heights, but she was much more afraid of never flying.” — Atticus
She traded the fear,
Because the balloon enticed,
She needed to fly.
I’m scared of heights. Having to change a light bulb makes me queasy. Watching someone else cross over a bridge makes me feel like I am going to fall. And the idea of getting on a ladder to clean my gutters fills me with fear.
Put me in a hot air balloon, though, and I become invincible. Almost every other type of flight is the same. Planes of all sizes, helicopters, and sky diving— I’m there at every opportunity. I believe hang gliding is next. A good goal for my 60th year? I do believe so.
Trading fear for flight? I’ll do it every single time. What a payoff!
A bit more from me.
