Fluttergaze Spirit
Poetry Salvage reply to “Quarantine Nap City”

The twinkling stringed lights on the patio high above the city were shining through the window.
Downtown, she could see the red and blue strobe lights of ambulances and police cars running to and from emergencies.
She lay in her bed with the city lights shining just outside of her windows.
Her eyes closed.
A limerick floated into her dream.
She tried to remember it before falling back into unconsciousness. Something about an eggplant and an apple. It faded from memory.
She dreams of puppies running in a field. Frolicking without a care in the world. Sunlight and spring breezes making it seem like heaven under magnificent skies. The little doggies licking her face.
A crash of a beer bottle and yelling outside awakes her from her slumber.
Out on her porch, she goes to see what is happening down below.
A maskless man is humping a street light as a crowd of feckless maniacs encourages him. A camouflaged police officer shows up in a cruiser followed by an ambulance with an EMT decked out in bio-hazard gear.
The maskless man is hacking up a lung now and yelling unintelligibly to the crown of mullets and morons gathered around.
She watches the scene unfold down below. It is almost like a movie because she is up high away from the danger. “Am I dreaming this?,” she asks herself.
The maskless man yells something about freedom as the officer shocks him with a taser.
The crowd scatters and runs away.
The maskless man is strapped onto a gurney and thrown into the ambulance.
As quick as it happened, the show is over. She goes back into see if she can continue dreaming about the puppies.
Just another night in the city of the Fluttergaze Spirit.
