Five Things I’m Thankful For Today

Taking Time For Gratitude

Gratitude In My Life

J.M. Troppelo asks us “What are 5 things you’re thankful for today?” I have so much that I am thankful for as my husband and I are each recovering from a severe case of COVID-19. According to John Hopkins more severe cases of this virus can take 6 weeks or more to recover and we are in our 5th week.

I am thankful that I am a little stronger each day. The physical therapist came yesterday and I completed a half hour of more intense exercise, as did my husband.

I am grateful for my daughter-in-law who did so much to meet our needs during our hospitalization. She brought us clothes, etc. while we were in rehab and she took care of things in our home. I have two daughter-in-laws who found an organization (Senior VA) to help us when we came home.

I am thankful for my youngest son who drove from the Blue Ridge mountains to our home two times with my 12-year-old grandson. They made renovations in our home making it easier for us to function. They did repairs to a hallway. Did I ever mention there is a learning curve when you begin to drive a wheelchair in your home? Those holes have been repaired and the wall has been painted. He also picked us up from the rehab center when we were discharged.

I am grateful for my sister who visited me while I was in rehab, and she came over to my home on the day after I was just discharged to help me. When you come home from rehab they pack everything in the room it seems, so those things have to be put away or thrown away.

Finally, I appreciate my answered prayers from God. When I was very ill I called out to God many times in prayer, and he answered them. Some of the most well known Bible verses I love are:

John 3–16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

Of course, I felt desperate at times, but knowing God answers prayers gave me a sense of peace that could not be found in any other way. I continue to thank God each day.
