Five Reasons You Must Make Your Side Hustle Work
Don’t Underestimate The Importance of These
What you are doing right now, on here, is important. Hopefully, you are devouring some of the great content and absorbing some of the lessons that talented writers are giving. I began writing on here because I needed an outlet but it has become more than that quickly. I don’t care what kind of hustle you call it, but that is what I am doing — hustling.
Here are five reasons why you should consider online writing as, at the very least, a permanent side hustle:
- It is recession-proof
I am a Mortgage Loan Officer and my job is cyclical. For the last two years, we were some of the most fortunate workers out there. We were doing incredible while others were either out of work or just scraping by financially. However, that is a different story now. It’s a struggle.
What I have found out by reading these articles is that there is a dizzying array of outlets that you can write for, do videos for, make websites for. If you are talented, you will never not be in demand. You may have to get a little more creative but you will always have enough work.
The pay certainly isn’t out of this world, but if you read enough you will find authors that are making decent side money or use this as their full-time job. I always intend to keep my job because I do enjoy it.
2. Creativity
For a long time, I believed the lie that people were either “creative” or they weren’t. Nonsense.
God made us in His image, and He is the ultimate Creator. We all have an itch to create. That is why some of the most fulfilled people I know are those who create things with their hands — they can build tangible things you can touch whether it’s cabinets, furniture, etc.
Most of them do it on the side, as a hobby but it does the trick. For those of us who sit in front of a computer all day and don’t necessarily produce something tangible, that part of us can be missing.
What most people don’t realize is that there are parts of yourself that are “buried” that you don’t even know about.
Here is a shovel, start digging. You’ll find a lot. There are skills that you have that the world needs but you just haven’t uncovered them yet. Don’t fret about it, you will. Bottom line is that if it comes from your mind, you are creative and you are a creator.
3. Mental Health
Creating is good for your mental health. I know that writing has helped me slog through some very difficult times. For some reason, once you get your issues down on paper they become clearer. It’s like talking to an objective third party for free.
4. Retirement
This is something that I can do in retirement. From what I have read, you can pick and choose your clients if you do this for long enough. I can take vacations and still do this. Amazing.
5. Social Media.
Let’s face it, mastering Social Media is crucial. It is the present and the future. I am nowhere near the level I need to be at but I am working on it. Mastering Social Media for writing accomplishes two things for me: it helps me build a writing audience and get my name out there as a Loan Officer.
All of this is very overwhelming but if you read about it long enough it will being to sink in.
I have had to become something akin to an explorer which has brought me out of my comfort zone. However, I am very comfortable with that.
