Summary

Rasheed Hooda shares his morning ritual of drinking apple cider vinegar mixed with water, which he adopted upon a recommendation and has continued for its health benefits as per traditional medicine practices, despite the lack of scientific research.

Abstract

Rasheed Hooda, a published author living a freedom lifestyle, starts his day with a homemade health concoction. He prepares a mixture of water with organic apple cider vinegar, which he keeps on his makeshift kitchen-nightstand due to his mobile domicile's limited power supply. This routine has been part of his morning for a year, inspired by a balloon-twisting event attendee. Despite modern scientific research's shortcomings in validating traditional medicinal practices, Hooda has found the practice beneficial to his health and continues it diligently. He acknowledges that while most research suggests a need for more studies on apple cider vinegar, centuries of use support its health claims. He expresses gratitude for being prompted to share this daily habit through the SCBWI daily prompt challenge and invites further interaction with his audience. Additionally, Hooda offers insights into his lifestyle, writing, and philosophy, emphasizing self-definition of success and the support of the ILLUMINATION writers' community on Medium.

SCBWI DAILY PROMPT

First Cup Of The Day When You Wake Up

It may not smell as good as yours, but I like it.

I have everything right next to my bed, on what is the kitchen top in my Mobile Domicile, but doubles as my nightstand. I don’t use the kitchen because it is all-electric, and I don’t have a place to plug it in. So, it’s my nightstand.

I have everything ready. An emptied and cleaned half-gallon jug of OJ, filled with water the night before. A clean cup, and the trusty bottle of organic apple cider vinegar. Upon awakening, I pour myself a cup of water and add a tablespoon of the vinegar.

As I make my bed and get dressed, I slowly and methodically drink my “nectar.” I have been doing it for a year now, and it has kept me healthy. Someone I met at an event where I was twisting balloons recommended it. He was the husband of the lady who had hired me to help promote her daycare center and Montessori school.

I did some research and found no reason not to try it. Most research articles about traditional medicine will mention that there is not enough research, and more studies are needed. Of course, there is not enough research. There is no money to be made in it. But the truth is that there is ample research from centuries of use and results.

There you have it. My first cup of the day. Sorry if I disappointed you by not talking about coffee, tea, or other aromatic concoction.

Thank you, Amy Marley, for getting me started on the SCBWI daily prompt.
