Summary

Ellie Jacobson, a freelance writer and editor from Minnesota, shares her experience participating in a 10-word story challenge and invites others to join in, while also promoting her writing and editing services.

Abstract

Ellie Jacobson has taken part in the 10-word story challenge, a creative exercise that involves crafting a story with exactly ten words, inspired by a photo. She was tagged by Amanda Laughtland and expresses her love for writing with brevity. After a brief scare of her cat, Mr. Percy, going missing, she found him napping in an unexpected spot and was inspired to write her own ten-word story. Ellie extends an invitation to other writers, particularly those associated with Flint & Steel, to create their own ten-word stories, offering the opportunity to submit them to Flint & Steel or tag her to share their work. Additionally, she promotes the Six Word Photo Story Challenge publication for those interested in similar writing exercises. Ellie is currently working on her first novel and offers writing inspiration through her newsletter, "Sparks," while also encouraging new writers to join Medium.

Finding Your Story in Ten Words

Oh where, oh where, has Mr. Percy the cat gone?

I looked all over for you. Your claws found me.

Thank you Amanda Laughtland for tagging me in the 10-word story challenge (via Sheri Jacobs). I love writing in brevity. Fiction or nonfiction, especially in response to a photo.

Yesterday, I could not find Mr. Percy the cat in his usual napping spots. We have teenagers (who don’t pay attention to a kitty running outside) coming and going from my home, so I’m always mindful of making sure Mr. Percy hasn’t escaped as he likes to do from time to time.

Without telling me first, he decided to nap on the top bunk in one of my son’s bedrooms. As I walked into the room asking my 15-year-old son, “Have you seen Percy?” I was greeted by a soft meow, followed by a paw grab at eye level. Of course, I had to pull out my camera to record his cute little face.

I guess he didn’t want his photo taken at that moment as he tried to swipe at my phone. Probably doesn’t want this top-secret napping location leaked to the press.

I invite Flint & Steel writers to write your own 10-word story, fiction or nonfiction. Whatever inspires you. Feel free to submit to Flint & Steel or wherever (tag me and I’ll come visit).
