Finding Your Ministry

Seeking work opportunities in uncommon times

I remember looking out the window waiting on the snowfall.

But it never arrived.

The storm had turned in another direction.

Our lives take a lot of twists and turns too. And we never know when we may be twisted or when we may be turned.

Our experiences shape us. And it’s up to us to fully absorb each one-good and bad. When we don’t, we lose the chance to grow and contribute.

Like gold, we must be purified. The dross must be removed from our souls as we pursue our ministry.

Yet, if you’re like many others, you don’t have a ministry. In fact, the thought may have never crossed your mind as you aimlessly wander through the gift of a lifetime. But it’s not too late.

These uncommon times have created many opportunities for those ready to seize them. But without a real ministry that’s important to you- one that uses your unique gifts to help others- those opportunities will fade as quickly as our short lives.

So take some time to think about what you can do right now. Today.

Maybe you are enslaved in your work. That’s a job-not a ministry where you and those you interact with can grow.

Maybe just work enough to meet the minimum requirements. That’s a job. But if you are fully engaged and applying yourself, that’s a ministry.

Maybe the work you do is always done with the idea of benefiting yourself. That’s a job. When your work has a shared purpose, it’s a ministry.

Maybe you quit a job (or are ready to quit one) because no one thanked or praised you. When you continue to carry on with your cross despite a lack of appreciation, its a ministry.

Maybe you’re work hours are o.k. as long as they don’t interfere with personal activities. That’s a job. When you are willing to make personal sacrifices to get your work done, its a ministry.

“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.” Matthew 9:37

You are invited to join in the work of a lifetime. Consciously seek it and have faith that your gifts will be revealed. Your life can have true meaning when those gifts shine for all to see.

In these uncommon times, consider setting an example for others who can only see what has been lost. Look into your own heart and find a renewed path. One that is peacefully lit for others to follow.

So don’t sit by the window waiting for the big snowfall that never arrives. Enjoy the excitement of going and finding it instead.

Then build a snowman that only you could make for all the world to see.
