Finding Peace

At the end of conflict

Just a few years before the big conflict Barry had a premonition of things to come. He did not realize it was a premonition, though, and dismissed it merely as a rogue thought fluttering through his mind.

But when the conflict finally came about Barry remembered that thought and finally realized that it had been a premonition. He wished that he had taken it more seriously. Now there was little he could do to extricate himself from the mess.

Now he wished a perfect resolution would come to him as suddenly and mysteriously as that premonition had come to him. But nothing came.

He dealt with the conflict as best as he could but it seemed like everything he did only made matters worse. He was quickly approaching the point where the best thing he could do was to surrender and cease all engagement in the situation. It appeared that the best response would be to cut his losses and turn around and walk away but he put that off as long as he could. His thinking kept telling him that he could come up with a solution and somehow win.

Not until that moment of surrender finally came did he accept surrender as an option. In his mind he kept fighting and fighting. He was utterly torn apart mentally and emotionally and physically.

Once Barry finally surrendered and walked away he was overcome with the most intense peace that he had ever experienced in his life. All the agony ceased. He had been crushed but he sprang back to life. He was finally at peace and wondered why he had put off peace for so long. Was it fear? Was it stubbornness? Was it his need to win? Was it the seemingly solidness of the logic that he followed? Was it everything that he had been taught? If only he had listened to his premonition he could have avoided the battle.

But then the peace that finally came may not have been so gloriously appreciated. The peace was so strong and profound that Barry did not ever want to let it go. Thanks to that battle his life changed forever.

Once he finally found peace he was then free to find joy.
