Finding My Way to Financial Freedom: How I Manifested My Own Income When My Stay-at-Home Mom World Shattered

It looked like the end of my marriage was coming, and I had to figure out how to make money FAST

This isn’t another just manifest money and you’ll get rich ASAP blog post.

It’s also definitely not a get rich quick scheme or how I earned 6 figures overnight success story.

Instead it’s a lesson for those who are financially dependent on a spouse, want financial independence or financial freedom, and/or need to make money quickly for survival.

I lived the American Dream.

Every single day.

Yep, imagine whatever just popped into your mind as the American Dream lifestyle, and that’s probably close to what my life looked like before separation or divorce.

But as much as I loved my spouse and as much as I wanted our marriage to work, I could see the writing on the wall.

I knew there was a good chance divorce was right around the corner, especially when it became increasingly difficult to get through to my spouse about my needs and our communication broke down.

Sh*t eventually hit the fan when money arguments surfaced. In our many years of marriage, we never once argued about finances. I lived my life feeling fully supported financially to raise my children and stay-at-home to homeschool them. I was even encouraged to do so by my spouse, and I was grateful for it.

Because I had been a stay-at-home mother for nearly two decades though, I was far financially independent.

I was also far from being a young 20-something starting fresh in the career world. My resume was a patchwork of fascinating projects, mostly unpaid or low paid, but nevertheless it failed to show deep, amassed expertise in any one area that could help me land a job quickly.

The Price of Divorce

I knew leaving the marriage because I wanted to be happy and healthy meant that I would inevitably need to make a mega financial sacrifice.

Exiting my marriage would mean that I’d either have to get a job or finally crank up my hobby business into a bona fide business that could support me and my life, which included raising children.

It would mean building a new life that would likely include worrying about footing college bills, paying for new Adidas shoes, helping to cover first and last month rent apartment deposits, contributing to my children’s wedding expenses and buying gifts for future grandchildren without financial help.

Wanting to put happiness into my days would mean giving up financial stability and safety.

How I Manifested My Own Income and Financial Independence

Once the divorce process was underway, I immediately knew I had to shift my focus and start building my own income stream right away. It became a top priority.

You know though, what’s really hard about going through divorce is when absolutely everything in your life does a 180.

Going from unemployed, stay-at-home mom, with an outdated CV, to trying to find work or build a business to being employed is a big f*ing deal, especially when it potentially means disrupting children’s lives such as by forcing upon them to go to school for the first time. Yes, it’s the children who pay the price for marriages that don’t work, isn’t it?

But I am determined to achieve my financial goals.

I am determined to be financially independent.

I am determined to experience financial freedom.

I’m not there yet, however.

But I’m busy every single day working on reaching my goals. I am closer today than I was yesterday to creating an income and a life of financial freedom to call my own.

How to Manifest Income

Manifesting isn’t magic, though it might feel like it. It’s not some way to guarantee overnight income. It’s not just positive thinking, either.

Think of manifesting as imagining your dreams or visualizing your desired future and pouring your energy into that image — through the power of the laws of attraction and energetic alignment.

You create your own reality.

Here’s how you can manifest the money you want in your life

1. Set an intention.

What is it that you seek? Get clear on what you want. Write it down or commit to to memory. When you manifest, you want to know what you are trying to attract.

2. Visual the income.

Visualize what it looks like an feels like to have the income you seek. What will your life and lifestyle look like? Visualize your financial future and financial freedom. You might consider meditating, writing in a journal, drawing or painting, or creating a vision board to help you.

3. Get to work.

Start creating a plan to set your ideas into motion. Manifesting doesn’t mean you’re a passive player in making your dreams come to life. You’re in the driver’s seat. Start dreaming. Start creating. And work freakin’ hard toward financial independence.

4. Get your gratitude on.

Express your gratitude. Look at what you have in your life and what’s going right financially. Write it down, so you can come back and reflect on your financial wins. For example, you might scribble down in a journal, I already make more money writing as a freelancer on Medium at this point than I did last month or the month before.

5. Be Incredibly Detailed.

Roll up your sleeves and get clarity on your financial goals. What do you want to achieve? How much? When? For example, you might say that you want to make $5,000 next month with your freelance writing career, with a goal to increase it by 10% the following month. Be specific.

6. Say Affirmations.

Repeat positive affirmations like, I attract money. Affirmations are powerful.

7. Adopt an Abundance Mindset.

Ditch the money scarcity mentality. It’s time to think big. Manifesting is about feeling like you already have what you want. Surround yourself with abundance. Think with an abundance mentality. Remove or limit yourself from environments or places where people keep you small or have a money mindset that focuses on lack or what you don’t have or can’t have.

For example, rather than thinking that you can’t make much as a freelance writer, and you haven’t yet seen any financial success from your life as a writer, flip the script. Read books about how to make money as a writer, surround yourself with other freelance writers who are thriving off their craft, attend meetups with successful freelancers.

Think big.

Think there are endless opportunities to make money.

The time is right now

The one thing I’ve learned about manifesting dreams is that you have to start believing right now in your capabilities. So, if you want to make money, financial independence, or financial freedom, it starts with mindset and manifesting what you want.

Are you ready to welcome money and financial independence?

Of course you are. LFG!
