Finding My Space Place

The Final Frontier in Office Design

A few weeks ago I posted about creating my creative space. I was being quite literal in my description as my new space is a pseudo spaceship. All Star Trek copyrights aside, I have created my own Star Trek Enterprise. It took a lot of time and creativity putting this space together and about $350.00 dollars later, I have succeeded. I have a space place.

We moved here 17 years (two cicadas) ago. Slowly, I have worked my way through painting each room of the house. Who knew there would be a global pandemic forcing all of us to work from home?

One room I never remodeled was the home office. After almost two years working in a room I didn’t like and couldn’t stand walking into, I felt I was due a new frontier.

This is what the room looked like before the renovation.

This part of the room before transformation

I painted the walls spaceship grey. The full mural shows my view out the window into the heavens. My “windows” are prints of Hubble/Webb Telescope images. My curtains are nebula and my backdrop is the bridge of my spaceship cabin.

I have a teleporter created with a wall divider and light strips. And I have a silver desk with lights under the top to feel as if I am driving my ship on a voyage to boldly go where no one has gone before. I found a cool, modern looking lamp with multicolored lights reflecting off the mural any color I am feeling today.

One of the things I have always loved about Star Trek is the lack of clutter in the ship. They have evolved, after all. There are clean lines, minimalistic furniture and the absence of mess. With a minimalistic eye, I have taken distractions out of this area of the room. I am only keeping the basic necessities in my ship. I love it.

Any good ship needs a crew, so I moved the dog bed in under the bridge. He is my “Number 1” and the cat, she sleeps with him now. She is the “Navigator.” We are ready to seek out new life and new civilizations.

Now my command module has been completed, it’s time to engage and seek the final frontier. No excuses. Who’s onboard?
