Discovering More Magic In Bulgaria
My weeks in photos — Week 27 — September 15–21, 2022

As I alluded to in last week's post, we moved on from Gabrovo last Thursday and headed off to Veliko Tarnovo. We didn’t know anything about the city and didn’t look at photos or do once ounce of research about it, so we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and discovered just how spectacular it is.
In fact, it is our favorite spot in Bulgaria so far.
The 1 hour and 15-minute train ticket cost just the equivalent of $ 2 USD each and we arrived just as darkness was setting in. We had a bit of a hassle finding our accommodation as our train was over 30 minutes late getting in, and our host whom we were supposed to meet in front of the post office was nowhere to be found.
I wrote about it in more detail in the post below, if you would like to read more about it.

Our first morning in VT, as the locals call it, we headed up the hill to a coffee shop and found an incredible view looking out over the river valley below. It was pure magic sitting up there while taking in the stunning scenery.

We went on a bit of an adventure that day, which I also wrote about in the linked post above, and also took in the city's many cute and quaint streets.
Like many places in Bulgaria, VT has its own share of history.

We spent the weekend wandering aimlessly through the adorable alleyways that would wind their way between houses. With no particular destination in mind, we let our intuitions guide us.

We checked out a lot of different types of artworks that grace the walls of the buildings and stopped to enjoy the warm sunny afternoons.

On Monday our friend Ahmed came to collect us in his car to take us back to his village of Sevlievo, which is where we have been since.
Sevlievo doesn’t have too much to talk about. It’s a blue-collar working town and certainly does not have tourism in it as VT did. But it’s quaint and quiet and we have enjoyed our few days here.

September 20th was our 5-year anniversary of being nomadic!
To celebrate, we went out to have a very nice meal in a restaurant. We came away completely satisfied, even with a couple of drinks each, for the equivalent of just $22 USD!

Tomorrow we are heading out to Varna. Varna is where the idea of living in different countries was born, back when we traveled there in 2015 on a holiday. There, we will be volunteering on a farm 20 minutes from the city for up to 3 weeks.
We are certainly looking forward to settling down and being static for a while. We have enjoyed this tour of Bulgaria for the past two weeks, but moving around is tiring and we can’t wait to unpack and relax for a bit.
Plus, it’s been a while since we have gotten our hands dirty in the garden!
Hope everyone has a great week!
Cheers!
