Summary

The author's kitchen flooding incident turned into a struggle with a slow repair company, prompting a search for leverage to expedite the repair process.

Abstract

On March 26, the author faced a flooded kitchen due to a burst pipe, which was promptly fixed and remediated within a week. However, the hired repair company proved to be exceptionally slow in responding and beginning the repair work, despite the author's purchase of replacement flooring and multiple attempts to reach out. After three weeks of inaction, the author sought to find leverage by contacting the insurance company and the remediation company that had recommended the repair company. This effort appears to have been successful, as the repair company finally committed to starting the job on Thursday. The author emphasizes that finding the right leverage can significantly impact the resolution of such situations.

Opinions

  • The author is dissatisfied with the repair company's slow response and lack of communication.
  • The author believes that external intervention, such as contacting the insurance and remediation companies, was necessary to prompt action from the repair company.
  • The author considers the purchased replacement flooring, described as "gorgeous water-resistant honeyed bamboo," to be a positive aspect of the renovation process.
  • The author is relieved and possibly optimistic following the repair company's commitment to start the job, indicating a belief in the effectiveness of the leverage they found.

Finding Leverage

The right call from the right person makes a huge difference

On March 26, our kitchen flooded from a burst pipe. We got it fixed that afternoon and started remediation the next day. A week later, the fans were gone, the remaining walls and concrete slab were dry, and it was ready for repair.

That’s when things went south. The company we hired is incredibly slow.

We went out and bought the replacement flooring — a gorgeous water-resistant honeyed bamboo. Then we waited. And waited. And called. And waited.

After 3 weeks of no response, we started looking for leverage. We called the insurance company. We called the remediation company that recommended the repair company. Could anyone light a fire under these guys?

They called this morning. The job will start on Thursday.

Finding the right leverage makes a huge difference.
