Finding Inspiration On a Hiking Trip With Friends
Ten word stories with pictures in nature
I’ve recently been tagged by Julie KingGood and Barbara Carter to come up with some fascinating ten-word stories related to 10 pictures for your entertainment.
This past week, I spent time with some old friends, hiking in a few areas of Northern California. I thought I’d share some of my photos and (mis)adventures from the trip. I hope you’ll find them as inspiring as I did.

One of my friends has a cabin in the woods and was kind enough to share it with us. The “meadow” pictured above rests just beyond her backyard. It looks inviting, doesn’t it? A few of us tried to hike around it, but quickly discovered that the meadow was hiding a swamp. A few feet in and we sunk to our knees in cloudy, muddy water. I managed to ruin a good pair of shoes.
Careful walking in the meadow because it’s really a marsh.

We started our hike on a steep incline. Afraid I would miss a step, I kept looking down, missing the world around me. It was early morning and when I managed to look up, I saw the picture above.
Don’t forget to look up and see the hidden sun.

At the top of the mountain, you can see heaven.

Surprises lurked around every corner. With perfect weather and no need for a lot of gear, spotting nature’s splendid colors was as easy as looking around.
Look all around you for color hiding in plain sight.

We didn’t use a map and although the trails were clearly marked, we sometimes took paths we weren’t familiar with just to see where they ended up.
Don’t be afraid to find out where the path leads.

The incredible trail system provided many choices. This time, we chose the higher road on the left, rather than the one on the right through the trees.
Stay on your path without worrying about the other one.

Sometimes, mother nature likes to remain sublimely untouched and wild.

Sorry about the quality of the above picture. The little guy didn’t want us to come near him, but he wanted to keep an eye on us as we continued our hike.
Understand that you might be closely watched along the way.

Hiking along a riverbank, we came across these three dogs splashing and fighting over a stick. I wanted to jump in with them.
Gather some friends, find some water, and dive right in!

We took long hikes over the course of two days, and by the end of the trip, we all wanted a glass of wine and a nap. Sounds good, huh?
A cozy nap is the ticket after a long hike.
Below are the excellent 10-word stories by my friends. Take a look!
