Finding Comfort in a To-Do List That Doesn’t End
Can we ever get everything done?

Lately, I’ve been wondering if I’ll ever catch up
No matter how much I do or don’t do, at the end of each day, there’s always a long list of things that I have to transfer to the next day — or maybe the next week.
It’s frustrating. Anxiety-generating. And negatively affects my productivity.
Then this morning, my daily verse from the YouVersion Bible app was:
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. (1 Peter 5:6, NIV)
In due time.
Oh, yeah. That pesky issue of trusting God’s timing, not mine.
I opened up my Bible. The next verse in that chapter is:
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7, NIV)
I know that. But sometimes I need to be reminded.
I continued reading:
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (1 Peter 5:8–9, NIV)
This isn’t news. The devil is alive and well. Many are suffering. Those two facts in and of themselves do not comfort me.
But this:
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (1 Peter 5:10, NIV)
Will I ever catch up? Will I ever get everything checked off my list?
I don’t know. I’m not going to worry about it. I’m standing strong, firm, and steadfast in faith.
God loves me and He will manage my list.
Let Him manage yours.
