Finally! Actual Evidence That There Was Fraud in the 2020 Election!
It was just a matter of time, right? Yes, indeed. Only there’s a small problem
Yet, it appears that the GOP and Trump can’t really crow just yet. It’s really more of an ooops moment.
PA Statewide
First, there was Pennsylvania Republican state legislator Seth Grove, who (having first bought into the big lie of election fraud) recently confirmed that there was election fraud in Pennsylvania for the 2020 election — by the Republicans. But he takes no responsibility, since (as he contends) he can’t help it if people believe what they see on the internet. His comments, and the related interview of the Philadelphia election commissioner, Al Schmidt, are part of the ooops moment for the GOP.
A case in point
As part of that awful, awful election fraud Trump and the GOP have been screaming about for months, there is the case of the elderly Pennsylvania gentleman registered (online) both his deceased mother, and his deceased mother-in-law — as Republican voters, of course wanting to help Donald Trump. He then requested, filled out and sent in the absentee ballot for his deceased mother for the 2020 general election.
5 years in the pokey for that fellow, evidently. He’s 70, so he could easily die in prison — and there’s no Trump to pardon him. That itself is rather an ooops.
If after 60 times you don’t succeed — keep at it
60+ lawsuits by Trump and the GOP across the country, and not one proven instance of fraud — until now. Maybe they should have asked Rep. Grove for assistance, since he was dialed in. But that would have been an odd pleading in court, even odder than the other ones every single judge panned.
What happens in Arizona… spreads to other states Trump lost?
Not to worry though, the Republican Legislature in Arizona has an ace in the hole, for which there are high hopes across the GOP nationwide. There has been a great deal of buzz about the technically-legal but really mysterious and secretive “audit” of 2.1 million votes from Maricopa County. Probably the best overall discussion of this mess is by Ms. Caren White right here on Medium, which I heartily recommend. I think she may be right: Trump thinks he can get back in the White House long before he even must register to run for 2024.
In Arizona (and other states planned in the future), there’s little or no oversight; the firm doing the audit has no experience; and its head -honcho was a vocal supporter of Trump’s election fraud claims; they didn’t know that no blue or black pens are to be near the ballots (or did they?) because they can be used to change the ballots (only red pens allowed); they’re doing something unknown by people who do have experience in ballot auditing — using UV light on the ballots for an unknown and undisclosed purpose.
Stubborn as a mule, er…elephant
So, you see, we all should really admire the tenacity of certain segments of the GOP and Trump. No matter how many ooops moments, and no matter that the facts and evidence have shown them wrong 100% of the time, they persevere. Turns out that you really have to work at it if you want to totally undermine democracy.
Now if they could just work that hard on governing.
