A hidden grave’s chilling tale

We had to carry him through thickets and mud.
“Hurry,” she hissed, glancing over her shoulder.
Our breaths mingled with the night’s chill, and our hearts raced in unison with our steps.
“Why here?” I panted as we lowered him into the earth.
Her eyes, a mirror of my torment, searched for mine.
“It’s safe,” she whispered, her voice cracking like dry leaves underfoot.
As we shoveled, I couldn’t help but laugh.
“He always loved hide-and-seek,” I murmured, tears blending with the soil.
“We found the perfect spot,” she replied, her smile a ghost of our past joy.
